It looks like everything is wrapped up and the guns are put away.
So here's the closure you never got last time, Ashbury. Everyone is now well aware of your original intentions, the conflict here (required on every thread) ran out of steam, and we didn't even end up getting locked. You couldn't possibly have asked for it to go better than that. Everyone's gonna sleep well tonight! |

It's fine, and I suppose better than not catching it. But what they caught was a guy taking no pains to hide what he was doing, since it was done as a matter of perceived convenience before shutting down. (And in hindsight, it didn't really save me any time. I was a little unclear on the most efficient way to squander all resources.) A better test than this would be needed to assure my mind that no tomfoolery was being pulled, if my actual dollars were involved. Black Hat guys can be awfully ingenious. But again, mostly I was just annoyed at the automated-looking message that came to me via the passive-aggressive mechanism of using a "no reply" email address. It felt like putting a corpse on notice to not misbehave, since I had already pulled the plug myself. Meh, that's in the past now. Last edited by Ashbury; 12-02-2018 at 10:27 PM. |

You can build a team without spending money and have a lot of fun. My FTP team is a blast and when you win a game against a better team it's a rush.
But you won't be able to compete against owners who are spending lots of money. That's reality. If a team is stacked with diamonds and golds, you won't beat them very often and you won't catch up to them on the 30-70 PP/game you earn. If your goal is to win a lot of games at higher tiers, you need to spend money, grind the AH, or get very lucky pack draws. If your goal is to have fun building a team and compete at lower tiers with owners who are doing the same thing, then there's no need to spend anything. |

It's a really bad game to be behind the curve in. I started day one, paid nothing, and have opened over 300 packs. My team pummels everyone and keeps generating points. If you start today, the AH has already collapsed. Most 2018 Golds and even Diamonds are barely worth their default sell price. You have to hit something rare to profit. Best way is to just buy cards, which is hard when your team is weak. It's going to be slow and painful.

I've been playing OOTP for about 6 years now, but only recently decided to sign up for the forums. Better late than never, I suppose.
I put fifty bucks into the beta (partially because I wanted to support the development and partially because I had a few glasses of scotch that night) and I can't see myself needing to invest more than that. I've spent the better part of the last few nights scouring the AH and built a team of mostly silvers and golds - almost all historic cards. Many of them I got on the cheap and with a lot of analysis put together a team that as of now is playing .735 ball in the EC, 6 games up on a team who apparently stacked their pitching staff with diamonds. I'd assume if I didn't have those scotches I'd be waiting a little longer to build my team, but it really is a matter of building a team around your primary strategy. I literally have about 30,000PP just sitting there and nothing to spend it on since my players who I researched and plugged in only cost me an average of about 2000-3000 per player. And it's not about the overall rating. It's about fitting your team's needs and getting production from every single player on your 25. /end rant. Sorry. Tonight was egg nog. |

[QUOTE=One Post Wonder;4396504]But this isn't that kind of game. Where do you need to apply intuition in PT? Scouting is 100%. Players don't get injured or age.
It's not at all. This mode is literally fielding the perfect team - AS YOU SEE IT. What I've found fun is digging deep into the AH and grabbing players on the cheap, and so far it has worked out amazingly. The historic cards have played a huge part in my winning the EC in beta and my two leagues thereafter. The same approach has me up by 6 games in my new EC while only fielding a team of silvers and golds. I have two diamond pitchers starting for me, and to be honest I'd sell the the Thor if there was a market for him.I honestly have two of my four diamonds on my reserve roster at the moment and my team has never played better. It's not about rankings, unless you're one of those weirdos who just HAS to field a team of all perfects... It's about knowing baseball and knowing what team you want to field and having a strategy to compete and win... And it's a hell of a lot of fun. The Happy Plankton, my FTP team, played over .500 ball in the pool and may or may not as the leagues start. It does not matter. They will be built slowly with love and patience and as long as I am alive, I have plenty of time.
My team with some money spent and many hours working the AH played .700 ball in the pool. I look at them as a great white shark not a member of the pod of whales of elite big spenders. The Thorpe Springs Horned Frogs are looking to devour all teams if they are able. The shark is always hungry and he feels no mercy be you big or be you small. We may not ever be the best team but your best team will be looking over their shoulders. ![]() Two ways to play my two teams. There is something for everybody. It is just a game. Have fun!

I put $5 into the mode in Beta just to test it and open packs. I opened 5 standard packs and did not get a lot out of it. A few silvers that were upgrades.
My current team I feel can be competitive. I still have no diamonds but I think my team can hold their own. I can't see myself buying any more points. I kind of enjoy looking for hidden gems I can afford in the market. |

Did someone merge this with the 'Just to Clarify' thread?
So 'just to clarify' - if there are posts that look out of place, it's because this just got merged with another thread that didn't really have the same subject matter. |

I see the logic of merging similar discussions together, but good luck keeping up with 20+ pages of content, even when the discussion isn't nonlinear

LOL. I posted about my personal weakness and inability to deal with the highly addictive nature of PT and my decision to opt out, and the tangent about one tactic of convenience I used while unloading all my assets, which ran afoul of the rules, landed my thread here, via a merge. ![]() Apparently this aspect is touching a nerve for the developers in a way they didn't expect. I don't care. I'll still play the regular game; I've managed to compartmentalize my addiction since it's not so much in real-time. |

We just try to combine all topics related to "Competitive Balance" here. All threads merged here did touch that topic
And if folks keep these sorts of discussions in this thread, we have no need to merge anymore and everybody is happy.

Pt really??? Really????
1st off let me say that I love OOTP19. I actually have been buying 4 copies a year for over the last 7 years (1 for myself and the rest for friends and family).....I will also continue to buy all those copies and probably more every single year for many years to come....I also find challenge mode to be amazing.....that said after looking at the schedule for the bronze league of Alpha Chi I already do not feel like playing it...what an absolute joke. A TEAM CALLED FIRE ANTY IN THE AFC CENTRAL STUCK OUT INSTANTLY IN MY MIND....I remember playing him before we were seeded in our divisions......HOW THE HECK CAN ANYONE PUT THAT TEAM UP AGAINST US????? FAIRNESS, NO WAY....HE HAD BASICALLY THAT Same TEAM BEFORE BEING SEEDED. Are you seriously trying to tell us that it is evenly matched with all his 100s and 90s against my and others loaded with bronze?
I planned on putting $200 aside for PT and player points during the year...I figured that is a decent amount to contend and also support my favorite game...as of now I will not spend a single $$$$ on PT....It is obvious that the game will be 100% pay to win and 100% pay to win only......do not think that I will not support the game because I always will...I'll find a few new guys who want to play it the regular way and spend that 200 buying them the base game..... I truly thought OOTP PT would be different then the money hungry grabbers of other companies...I could not of been more wrong. I do have a desire now to play in online league mode and never have.....can someone tell me or send me a link of how to go about it please...thank you. ps: BTW:Fire Anty had basically the same team before being seeded...its not like he got lucky and hit all those 100s and golds right before the season....its not like he magically bought those cards before game 1. |

First off, don't be surprised to see this merged into the competitive balance thread.
Next, that stacked team will be promoted until it is facing other stacked teams leaving the other leagues more competitive. It will take several weeks though. Nobody is forcing anybody to spend extra money. If you have to be competitive on day one then that is not the developers fault. I put in 5 bucks and am happy to build my team more slowly. Oh, and your $200 would more than likely buy a team that could compete with anyone. |

I don't believe any effort is put into making fair matchups in this first run of the bronze level league, the fairness was meant to occur organically based on who is promoted/relegated as we complete seasons. There was a late decision to make matchups in this league based on the results of the entry pool (which would have been a good idea), but it was decided so late that there was a lot of pushback against the idea (since many people would have approached the entry league differently if they had known of the plan in advance).
TL R: There was no seeding, and it will take at least one, probably more seasons (with one season a week) before the talent level in leagues is leveled out a bit.

I totally disagree with that 200 would compete with anyone. Did you look at his team? I tried up loading the screen shots but it did not work for some reason but here is an example: Degrom :100 Eckersley 100 Sale: 100 Kershaw: 99 Bauer: 96 Martinez: 96 Prior: 96 Treinen: 96 Dibble: 96 Diaz: 91 Doolittle: 89 Smith:87 Lineup Betts 100 Mays 100 Trout 100 Arenado 98 Lindo 98 Ramirez 97 Rendon 97 Yelich 96 Baker 94 and so on and son...don't give me that BS! And you know what I can GUARANTEE that if someone even bought 1/3 of what that man has then he would magically end up with Simmons as Catcher and Mantle at OF and Gehrig at 1B..... I'm so mad....**** IT ALL MY MONEY IS GOING TO ACTION PC BASEBALL NEXT YEAR...The game is not near as good in single player but at least has HONEST TRUE HEAD TO HEAD PLAY.... AS ANGRY JOE THE VIDEO GAME REVIEW MAN WOULD SAY: OOTP HAS DONE ****ED IT UP WITH MICROTRANSACTIONS! |
