Right now, when I hire a coach, I know absolutely nothing about him other that that he prefers a power hitting approach or what have you. Even when he's been with the team for a while, I still have no idea of how good he is or if he's actually helped anyone. There must have been some reason behind the change, but personally I don't see how this makes the game better in any way.
IMO all of these coach abilities should be visible to us without going to GM mode, because I am sure the AI takes them into account when it makes decisions.
At the very least, change coach reputation so that it has at least some direct correlation with ability. Someone with no experience can be unproven. Being on a successful team can increase the rep slightly. Being employed and being good should also increase the rep.
I'd also make it so that coaches with 0 years experience are always mediocre to terrible, then improve significantly over time with work experience. Someone with 0 years coaching experience should never be among the best in the world.

I disagree with this. In real life, you never exactly know how well a coach will do. You go by his past history and what has been said by him or about him. I think that reputation should take place of that (maybe it already does) and that rep should reflect the coaches history. For example, nobody knew if Counsell would be a good manager, and nobody can give you a completely factual answer either. Whether a coach is good or not is really all about history and how its perceived.
Also, for coaches with no experience, I dont think they should always be bad either. IMO, a new coach should just have an unknown/neutral reputation and leave it be. For example, Cora is a great manager for Boston but this season was only his second year of coaching in all of Major League Baseball.
So basically, I think coaching does need to be reworked but I dont think ratings should be shown to players as a default. Just leave it as an option like how it is with players.
