OOTP19 Cannot find my save
Hi all,
Not sure what happened, but now when I start up the game, it tells me that it can't find my save file. I've looked in my files and the game appears to be there, the game just can't detect it. I've used the troubleshooting and expert tab in the settings menu to try and remedy this issue, with no luck. I've also attempted to create a backup from my league but no dice there either. Anyone know how I might go about fixing this? Thanks

It might be that the save is corrupt. At least if you hadn't tried moving the save around or changing anything with it, that's the most likely explanation.
Can you try to restore the autosave and see if that fixes things? 1) Open the game and on the start screen, click on Settings (or Preferences in OOTP 11-14). 2) Now click on the tab "Troubleshooting". 3) Click "Open folder containing saved games". 4) Now open up the league folder you're wanting to restore. 5) Then select all of the .dat files in the folder and back them up (just in case) by copying them to a temporary folder or creating a zipped file with them 6) Open the folder called "auto-save". 7) In there, select all of the ".dat" files and copy them to the league folder (the parent of the current folder) overwriting all of the ".dat" files in the league folder. Let me know how that goes and if it works for you.

Hi Lukas, thanks so much for the response.
I believe I followed your instructions correctly, but it still doesn't seem to have made a difference, it still doesn't detect any leagues (including ones I haven't played in a while)

It may be that somehow the custom data folder for the game got switched around so that he game is looking in the wrong place for the saves. So try this: Open the game > Go to settings > troubleshooting and click on 'open folder containing app.cfg and engine.cfg Click ok on the popup. Then in the folder that will open delete the file called paths.cfg Close the window. Go back to OOTP and close the game. Then restart and try again. Does OOTP find your saves now?

I just logged in after the new patch and have a similar situation - I feel sick because I have been playing out games in the same fictional league since launch (2+ seasons and in first place in 3rd season).
It might be that the save is corrupt. At least if you hadn't tried moving the save around or changing anything with it, that's the most likely explanation. - I've never moved any files. Can you try to restore the autosave and see if that fixes things? I don't see this option. 1) Open the game and on the start screen, click on Settings (or Preferences in OOTP 11-14). Done. 2) Now click on the tab "Troubleshooting". Done. 3) Click "Open folder containing saved games". Done. I see a league folder with the correct name (CBL.lg). 4) Now open up the league folder you're wanting to restore. Done. There is nothing in the league folder. Zero files. 5) Then select all of the .dat files in the folder and back them up (just in case) by copying them to a temporary folder or creating a zipped file with them. No files in this folder. 6) Open the folder called "auto-save". I don't see this. 7) In there, select all of the ".dat" files and copy them to the league folder (the parent of the current folder) overwriting all of the ".dat" files in the league folder. I don't see this. Let me know how that goes and if it works for you. Again, this is since the last patch. Today it the first day since installation of it that I logged in to get a few in. -Rob |

Just to get it out of the way, the patch shouldn't have anything to do with this. There's nothing in it that would affect loading or finding saved games in the least.
As to figuring out what exactly is happening, can you post a screenshot of your CBL.lg folder here for me? Also, check the suggestion I posted above on resetting the paths.cfg file as well, since that might help.

Attached a pic... I tried a "new game test" and it is saving where my other leagues were saving. It's the only league I see now in OOTP 19. Rob

Ok, so looks like you're looking one directory too high. Can you double click on the CBL.lg and look in there for the autosave files?

When I open the CBL.lg folder it is empty. (pic 2)
When I click on the CBL OOTP19LG file (pic 3), pic 4 happens. Thanks for taking the time to walk me through this... |

Ok, pretty sure I see the problem! Looks like OOTP is looking at the wrong saved games folder. It needs to look for the one in your Documents folder, which is where the saves should be.
I mentioned trying this above, not sure if you were able to do so yet or not? I think it will solve things. It's a first step anyway. Open the game > Go to settings > troubleshooting and click on 'open folder containing app.cfg and engine.cfg Click ok on the popup. Then in the folder that will open delete the file called paths.cfg Close the window. Go back to OOTP and close the game. Then restart and try again. Does OOTP find the save automatically now?

Doesn't look like any of these proposed fixes are working for me. Going through the troubleshooting tab seems to open all the correct files, and in my folder window I can see all of my leagues and files, and they all look right. Despite this, OOTP still can't detect any saved leagues.

Sorry was sick last week and missed this in the confusion. Are you still having trouble?
I'll try to walk you through what worked for Akamai, as I think it's the same problem for both of you. After trying the above, if it still doesn't work, can you try this? Open the game, go to 'settings' > 'expert' > 'custom data path'. When you click 'select', where does that take you. Or is the line blank and you can't click select? If you can hit 'select', then do so and navigate to Users\Whatever Your Username Is\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 19 and hit select once you get there. Make sure you're actually in the OOTP Baseball 19 when you do that. So you'll have that line on the path and you'll be looking at list of folders that starts with addons backgrounds ballcaps and also includes saved_games Seelect that, restart the game and see if it finds you game automatically now. Let me know!

Any chance this is related to the Windows 10 delayed October update that mass deleted files that were being setup to be linked in the Documents folder?

Sorry for the delayed response. no, that fix doesn't seem to make a difference with this issue for me.
The place that the custom data path leads to is the correct saved_games folder with the correct league files in it. I find this really odd that, why would all of my leagues become corrupt at the same time? If indeed that is the case.

I'd like to bump this thread (if this isn't kosher just delete my post and send me into exile, whatever's appropriate!)
