It will be next year. So the OOTP 19 cards are now fixed, but the OOTP 20 cards will change throughout the season. So you might get lucky and start with a Bronze Yoan Moncada, but that might be a card you keep around in case he develops into a silver or maybe even gold over the season.

As to how much the cards will change, we'll have to figure that out. I believe when we ran the numbers for last year, the top movers changed by up to 15 or so points, maybe a little bit more (I think Acuna's "pre-season" value was around a 69, and he ended up as an 82, and he didn't even have a full season of data). So yeah, it's not like a bad month will move Mookie from a 100 down to a 65, but if you find the new hot bat, that could definitely be a way to improve your team without spending, or a new arbitrage on the auction house (ie. if you snapped up all the Muncy cards early last season, could have sold them for a nice profit later).

On my best pull, it was in late in the season, I had some extra PP and decided to spend it on a couple of standard packs. One pack got me a silver and a bunch of other trash cards. But then the second pack was a real winner. I was excited to see Gleyber Torres pop up and thought I was done with good cards in the pack... but the game had other plans. The look of shock on my face as Christian Yellich popped up from the same pack... it was quite a moment. 2 Diamond cards from a single 1000 PP pack. I couldn't believe it.
