Help creating historical pro/rel sim

I'm trying to set up a league but am feeling like it's not going to work the way I want it to.

I want to do a historical sim starting in 1901 where the American League comes in as the second division and we have promotion and relegation from there. Ok, I can do that much, but what I really want to do is assign historical rookies to their actual teams, and that's what seems to break it.

First I had automatic expansion enabled, but with the teams split between two leagues, it created lots of weirdness where it basically turned the NL into the AL after the first season and the NL teams disappeared. With it turned off, it doesn't keep up with team name changes and relocation and no rookies seem to get imported.

Any ideas?

if you have the automatic expansion feature on, then the leagues will expand exactly how they did IRL and any changes you make to that structure will be erased every year.

so, if you want to put the AL to be a second tier league, linked with the NL in a promotion/relegation setup, you cannot use the automatic expansion feature.

and if you don't use the automatic expansion feature, then you are bound to make all the changes of expansion, relocation, team nicknames and so on yourself.

on the other hand, there shouldn't be any problem in getting the historical rookies to get imported each year. you just have to have that box checked in the Historical Settings tab.
