Waiver Claims Improperly Awarded
Good Afternoon,
I'm commissioner of the online league CLB: https://statsplus.net/clbsc/reports/..._144_home.html We are in the 2030-2031 offseason. Noticed a problem with waiver claims. The Seattle Mariners waived a player, Bud West. The Cincinnati Reds were 68-94 and are showing as currently holding the waiver claim, although the player still has 5 days left on Waivers. Problem is, several AL GMs have attempted to submit waiver claims for West, and it's telling me somebody else with higher priority has beaten them to the punch?! I've looked and confirmed this to be the case. In testing, only the Red Sox are able to successfully submit a waiver claim. My understanding is that ANY AL team should be able to claim him over the Reds, as they are both AL Teams. Any insights? |

I do not believe the game works like that. I believe it is only based off of worst record.

Yeah i'll second what wiupike said, I think waiver claims is always based on record, regardless of league.

Per OOTP Manual:
Multiple Claiming Teams Claims for a waived player are 'on hold' until the end of the waiver period. That is, waiver claims are not on a first-come, first-served basis. The league takes note of all the teams claiming a certain player and processes those claims once the waiver period has ended. In the case of a standard MLB setup, teams from the AL have priority over teams from the NL in claiming players from the AL and vice versa. Priority is otherwise determined by reverse order of win-loss records as noted below. The same applies to setups with other sub leagues. If more than one club in the same subleague claims a player, the club currently with the worse win-loss record gets the player. (If fewer than 31 days have passed in the current season, then last season's won-lost records are used for this purpose.) |

Pretty sure the league does play a role.
In my experience, and like this case, AL teams would have first crack prior to NL. Just make sure the complaining teams actually have budget space for the claim. I think the message is all-encompassing. A team with a higher priority OR you don't have budget space kind of thing. I'll stand to be corrected, but pretty sure the league priority has happened to me several times when claiming. Screenshot the actual message received if you can? I guess I was wrong. I've never noticed league playing a role in waivers in the dozens of seasons i've played...

Just happened upon a waiver attempt of my own...
As mentioned above, there are several criteria for a claim. Possibly the teams being denied are being shut out because of another reason. |

we have already advanced past that day in the schedule. I'm too tired to get screen shots now (leaving early for Thanksgiving) but its none of those items -
Claiming AL team had $55m free (contract was 500k) Player wasn't pulled back because he's now on the NL Team (reds) I'll get some screen shots if I can replicate the issue when I return. |

In real life, the priority for a waiver claim depends on the type of waiver.
If it's a Trade Assignment waiver, then claiming clubs within the league have priority over claiming clubs outside the league. If it's an Outright Assignment or Unconditional Release waiver, then the player goes to the claiming club with the lowest winning percentage, regardless of league. (Optional Assignment waivers were eliminated in 2016) Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 11-22-2018 at 03:49 AM. |
