I've seen a lot of dumb offers

from the AI before. I've just such an urge to shout, "What are you people? On dope?" Bet I'm showing my age there.

The kicker is that even the AI itself (in the form of the Assistant GM) is telling you that it is dumb.

This is a complaint that comes up every now and again, that stirs the debate of realism. I believe it's pretty realistic that the majority of offers are laughable. I imagine that's how it is in real life.

There are stories from RL about GMs making "laughable" requests or offers. You've got to start somewhere.

BTW...usually if you go to "discuss deal" in the response, you can obtain the same offer for much less. I honestly think AI offers are to spur negotiation...I've rarely, if never, have accepted an initial offer from AI...and I'm sure many real life GMs can say the same.

it tells you whom they like. if it's a player you'd never trade, add him to your no-trade list. something to keep up on, anyway.

if it's anything else, it gives you a good idea what to include in a trade with them -- worth looking to see if anything is useful... or if your team's future is locked up and tidy, ignore it.

i prefer to have a target talent (filter) and find various options fitting need that i find acceptable. this doesn't help find teams that value what i have to sell more, though... i ahve to setup a deal with each team and then compare cost.

the emails tell you the ai gm likes that player more than normal. in addition to the color coded strength/weakness per position expected effect.

e.g. age and type of talent influence how AI gm's value a player... maybe they prefer young and OBP heavy... or vets and BA (sliders in editor).
that effect gets added to the obvious strength/weakness of a position (relative to mlb player or prospect). the email may give a hint of that ai gm preference.

why "may" ... sometimes the AI offers more trades to you when you have a low # of that position. e.g. if you only have 5-6 RP on your 25-man, they will inundate you with offers to trade RP to you. it clearly has nothign to do with their preference or weaknesses, but rather our own team's perceived weakness... even if those 5 RP are all elite and you know the 5th guy will only get ~30ip in a year, but the AI does not.

I see a lot of dumb offers where the user controlled team benefits, like the angels often are willing to trade trout for miguel sano and a a half decent prospect

Wish I had your AI. Trout is treated like a god by my AI, and costs more. Some prices you can't pay.

They're just not usually this over-the-top. Also, I notice the challenge mode GM is a bit more abusive—darn near every deal you propose that would at least be close to reasonable gets the, "worst offer I've ever seen" treatment. Then, a certain amount of money changes everything. I've been forced into becoming Steinbrenner, and THAT truly pi**es me off.

My Assistant GM ALWAYS dislikes my trades. I don't even know why he bothers weighing in because I always ignore him. (He's rated "Great", but I'm rated "Legendary", so I win.)

In fact, I'd like the game developers to add an Assistant GM comment, "Really? Oh, go ahead, you think you're so smart."

Or a line from your manager from the movie draft day: "Okay let me get this straight Sonny. In a span of one day, you managed to burn through three years worth of #1 and #2 picks. Is that correct? I quit!"
