Keeping Names National
I'd like for there to be no cross-pollination of names in my fictional league. Currently, American names (nation 0) borrow from other nationalities (no doubt reflecting our American melting pot), but I'd prefer that only international players have international names. For example, I might have an American player named Jean-Luc Federov.
I know that there's probably just a bit to set in the world_xml file to do this, but I'm not sure what it is. Any help? |

you can replace the names file? this is not somethign i've done but recently read similar things in other threads... recent in this case -- < 1 year.
maybe search for "nickname first name", if i recall that's the gist of thread title. otherwise... league settings -> players set where they come from... then under league structure pick a specific region instead of "no region" (may need to do that first or the change could reset various player settings of first place to look, not sure) that might control it? i guarantee a search of forums could clear things up. |

I have indeed replaced the names files; it's a fraction of the size it once was and is limited to the six nations I'm using. I think the cross-pollination comes from somewhere in the world_xml file; it's just sorting through old forum posts and figuring it out.

The names are just the beginning. Some of this is controlled by the world_default.xml file for each nation under the "Ethnicities" tab. By default, the United States generates players with 77% from the nation 0 nameset, 13% from the nation 1 nameset, 9% from the nation 39 nameset, .06% for nations 2 and 3, and .03% from all other namesets except 5, 6, and 33.
With your edited name files, you will need to edit the world_default.xml file (I recommend using Notepad++ to make changes, and backing up an original copy) to the ethnicities for your US nation. This post gives a tutorial for what exactly you need to do, but the whole thread has much information for editing that file to anyone's liking: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...3&postcount=33 (You can ignore the part about editing ethnicities.txt) |

It's pretty easy to do in-game too. Just go into the nation editor and set all nationalities other than U.S. (Modern) to 0. Of course you'd have to do this for every save game so editing the xml is definitely the more permanent way to do it.
