Serious request Markus: Leagues you can't buy PP

I like a level playing field and being on a pension I can't keep up with pay to win games. So it would be nice to include some leagues that you can NOT purchase points with cash money!

Been buying your games since day one, need your approval and support on this.

Thank you for listening.

I was thinking of asking about this as well. Trouble is, how do they make money from PT if that is an option? Because, the fun that I have had so far, opening packs and dealing with auctions, would be sufficient to me and I would not feel any urge to spend money. So I doubt this is going to fly.

First of all, I don't see any way to reliably implement this. If you've ever bought PP, you're ineligible for the league? So if in the offseason, I spend $1 on a pack and only pull 2 Bronze, I have to switch leagues now? It's not like the teams get reset from season to season.

Second, promotion/relegation exists and it's been discussed ad nauseum. I would rather be in a league with a bunch of people who've spent money and yet are fielding teams around my talent level, than be in a league with a bunch of people who have spent no money, but pulled a Diamond, sold it, and are now destroying me. Let's let the performance on the field and the P/R system sort all that out.

It has come up a number of time and he has been pretty clear that it won't happen.

Eventually promotion and regulation may sort things out but that may take a few seasons to spread everyone out at the various levels (Rookie - Major Leagues). Once those who purchase mega teams get promoted to the higher levels it should make the lower levels more competitive. Right now everyone is all bunched up in rookie league

Easiest thing ever to implement, join the league and you have no option to buy points.

...and it has already been said a dozen times that it won't fly.

Actually, that's a very good point. I am having fun being competitive in the rookie league. So what if that's the level that I am playing at in the future, as long as I am climbing in the standings with every (free) pack that I open (in my dreams). I'm in a pennant race with Sonny Gray (of all people) as my #1 starter. That's all I care about.

Two good argument here. I think there is another related concern to raise as well. PP is designed at a new/broader audience than our experienced traditional OOTP community. The biggest challenge I see as I experiment with it is the first impression it makes on that new audience. I think if I was an experienced sports-gamer that never played OOTP before, my first impression of PP would be that its a pay-to-win game that I'm not going to be able to compete in without dumping lots of cash. I would probably move right on.

Fyrestorm makes a good argument that the promotion/relegation system may create an equilibrium where I'm eventually playing against similar free or small PP purchase players, but I think there's an issue to address with creating a first impression of fair play without purchases.

We had this discussion a few times already. The universe in PT will remain one unified league system, there will never be leagues with restrictions.

People seem to be forgetting that only a very small percentage of users are actually spending a decent amount of money, and 70+% do not spend a single dime at all. So, if someone does not want to spend money, he will still end up in a very competitive league system where promotion / relegation leads to a self regulating cycle.
