Not Understanding Payroll

Hello -

I have a salary cap of 65k; however, I only have 30k used. Accounting only says I have 9k left. Why?

The remainder could be tied up in negotiations?

You might want to post a screenshot of your finances screen. Even the experienced forum users around here are generally not clairvoyant.

If your active roster is not full, for some reason, OOTP tends to allocate the same budget that would be used to fill those spaces.

To explain better, I'll use this example.

25-man active roster, however at present you only have 20 players on the roster.

say minimum is $1,000 (for easy math)

the 20 players on your roster have salaries that equal $40,000.

OOTP will say your current payroll is $45,000 to cover those 5 empty roster spots.

I assume it does this to cover if you promote 5 people, rather than sign 5.

That makes sense as I have several spots left on my active roster. Thanks for the response.

Do you have enough money to spend to your cap?

If you don't have enough cap room and are not playing in challenge mode, you can always go into commissioner mode and edit your player expenses to have negative whatever the game is allocating to empty roster spots... technically, it's cheating, but it's less cheating if you then remove said negative from player expenses after you fill your roster.
