LOL @ PbP

Watching a game play out and the first time Jayson Heyward came to bat, this is opening day if it matters, the PbP mentions that he was given the name "Velcro" as a kid, but it didn't stick. I'm not sure how I feel about this. It made me chuckle but also kind of groan. Anyways, no hate. Just thought it was a funny line that might have gone right past me if I wasn't paying attention. Any attempts to add color is appreciated, even if sometimes those attempts don't always quite hit the mark. Kudos to those doing the writing.

I gotta say, the PBP has gotten a lot more colorful in recent versions. Definitely enjoyable.

I had one the other day where a young player I had recently brought up from AAA came to the plate and the PBP text read that he had a heavy heart as his grandmother had passed away the previous night.
Made me sort of sad but was also a nice touch, I thought.
But yes, that velcro joke always does elicit a groan from me.

When you read some of the real-life announcer bloopers that are included in the hints/popups that we see at times (Jerry Coleman, Phil Rizzuto, etc.), some comedy in PbP (intended or not) is not out of place.

When OOTP humanizes fictional players, it's almost like a mind <blank>, Because - maybe I'm weird - but you kind of develop a strange attachment to them. There were a couple of players that I thought about releasing/trading the other day and... I just couldn't.

Ultimately, they're just randomly generated by an algorithm, but you still feel for them in a way... But I might need my head examined.

I get this completely. I just resigned a 39 year old backup outfielder and my primary bench bat to a 1 year extension because he never won a World Series until last season with my team, and we are in the hunt for a pennant again this season and should be looking good next year too. I acquired him via trade my first season as GM and he started that season before being mainly a backup last year but winning a World Series.

If I brought a player up from the minors, and there's story about his grandmother dying... I'd be like, "I can't send this guy back down. His grandma died. He's going in the starting line up! Chin up kid."

Hey wait... What is WRONG with ME?! He isn't REAL!

I think there needs to be a Black Mirror episode about OOTP.

My favourite announcer blooper of all time is not baseball related, but comes from the Formula 1 Racing announcer Murray Walker, who once said "The car in front is unique. Except for the one behind it, which is identical".

So much this (and all that followed related to this.)
I find myself releasing or trading players (some of them, certainly not all) and hoping that they catch on somewhere else and get a chance to show what they can do. I just hope they don't do it against my team (although, it seems to me like players who formerly played on my team and come back to play against us always do great in at least the first few times they face us as an opponent. Probably just my imagination/confirmation bias. But still.)
Sometimes I almost find myself talking to them (because I wouldn't actually talk out loud, by myself, in front of my television screen, to imaginary players in a computer game- I mean that would be insane right... and I'm not insane, no sirree, I'm not, won't catch me doing anything like that) and saying something like sorry, man, nothing personal. We just don't have spot for you. I sincerely hope this new organization has some kind of role for you and I wish you the very best.
