Pick order for free agent compensation picks, could use some help
Hey everyone. I could use some help with something. Hoping someone can tell me how the order of compensation draft picks is decided in game or in the old MLB CBA. I know first and foremost it's date signed but as guys like to sign in chunks in OOTP I wanted to figure out how the order is decided when players sign on the same day and had a QO attached.

This is how it should work now, but it might be different in-game. It indicates nothing regarding date signed and I don't recall any CBA that did so, although I don't study CBA compensation rules, so that's by no means definitive. Also, every CBA is old compared to today, so which CBA do you want rules on? Last edited by Drstrangelove; 09-09-2018 at 11:47 AM. |

This seems to be the rules for the 2012-2016 CBA when QO's were created. Date signed is not mentioned as a means to determine draft order. My best guess (from looking at how draft order occurs for waiver claims, the June Draft, and Rule 5), is that it's reverse record from the prior season, assuming the QO player actually signed with another team prior to the June Draft. (Unsigned or resigned players are not compensated, for obvious reasons. Players signed after the June draft will not be compensated.) Last edited by Drstrangelove; 09-09-2018 at 12:00 PM. |
