2018 Blue Jays Blockbuster Trade

In my save Jays are 8gs back of Boston & only 3 gs out of a wild card position, so I decide to pull off one of my biggest trades to date.

I think the Blue Jays won that trade. Especially if Travis is as injury prone in the game as he is in real life

In real life, you would not have gotten away with that. Five players under 30, including a future Hall of Famer for four guys 29 and over plus Devon Travis?

Why would Washington do that?

True, but the AI doesn't know that. ...After I shopped Donaldson the AI offer Harper as a 1 for 1, but I decide the expand on the offer to see what I can get, Donaldson is 32 yrs & wanted $60M per season for 8 yrs, Harper is
25 & just signed for 9 yrs w/player opt out after 5 yrs for $57M per.

I would feel dirty just looking at that trade...lol

and what are your trade/eval/financial settings that you would

a) get offered 1 for 1 with Harper, I've never gotten anything close to that
b) need to pay either of them 50+ million per year, that's insane, I've seen guys ask for 40 after like 20 years of inflation, but that's nuts

The game doesn't value rental players at all. I often trade Donaldson for Machado straight up with a 20/20 minor league veteran.

To be honest I don't love the trade for you. Harper is great and Rendon is great, but Smoak Travis Solarte are pretty useful pieces, as well as Pillar, and outside of Harper Rendon you diidnt get much back.

I think you could have kept Pillar/Smoak/Travis/Solarte and traded prospects for Rendon, though given how good Solarte is in Sims I've played I'm not sure you needed Rendon at all, who I find is better in real life than ootp. So you probably could have done Donaldson for Harper and kept the better supporting pieces and been a much better team.

This trade would be amazing for the Jays IRL, not as good in ootp.

I didn't make any changes to trade/eval/financial settings left them as is.

I would have loved to keep Smoak & Solarte but to make the trade happen I had to add them, I try adding prospects but Nationals were asking for Vlad Jr. & Bichette to be added which I'm not willing to do.

I think if you didn't trade for Rendon you could have avoided moving all of that and been in a better position in the short & long term. Then it's just JD for Harper.

I don't know what your trade settings are on or what your build is, but when I tried this with Build 59 from the start of the season Washington turned me down. I wanted to replicate it but was told the offer was insulting.

I can say, FWIW, I gave up what I thought to be too much for Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy at the deadline while playing as the Reds and the same for Chris Archer from TB in the off-season of the 2018 QS. Realized when I went to bed last night that was not the case and my system is STACKED.

And I thought Grady Sizemore asking for an Average Annual of $26.4M in 2009 was insane.. lol

It's Oct 1st 2018 & the Jays swept the Rays in the last series of the season to make the playoffs & the last wild-card spot, Washington also made the playoffs by taking the 1st wild-card spot in the NL

So, the playoffs are done, we lost to the Red Sox in the Wild-Card game 4-3.
