Player Poaching in Minor Leagues

Any way to keep the MLB GM from 'poaching' my players? I've tried the option to lock them to minor league but it isn't working.
I've gotten promoted each year so far and it's nice they are there after my promotion, but I would also like to play a full season with the same team from opening day.

Unfortunately the only way to do this would be to be the major league GM yourself and just play out the minor league games.

I always felt the constant meddling from the incompetent boss is the central charm of the management experience. Every good story needs an antagonist.

Lol. I play as a minor league manager, so I totally get this. About the only thing I feel compelled to adjust by force of God is when the GM leaves me with like 8 pitchers.

That's usually when I tap my backup catcher or bench players on the shoulder and say to them "You feel like giving me an inning or two?"

Well, I have no shortage of candidates for that. I have six catchers on my roster.

(Granted, it's a 35-man roster, but jesus AI GM, can I get some field players please??)

Out of curiosity, what level are you managing that you have six catchers? Also, what challenges have you faced with a 35 man roster rather than the 25 man? I've only managed AA but maybe the 35 man roster could be a fun challenge. I imagine that getting players their playing time is a bit more difficult.

Well, in my baseball world, the lowest level of rookie ball has 35, the others have 25. That's mainly because Markus has told me it's always best to have the bottom level a little larger. Helps with reducing the constant sign/release roster moves and stuff.

Anyway, 35 the big challenge is definitely getting people innings and PAs. It's very easy to be tempted to make players disappear when they have a tough stretch. Case in point, my best catching prospect is hitting like .100 and another catcher is hitting .350. It's really hard to convince myself to give the one guy at-bats. It's also definitely easier to line up lefties against RHP and righties against LHP since you typically have a few more bats than usual. Other than that, it's not all that different really.

You know, I love the movie Moneyball to bits - I could watch it daily - and I just realized that once I'm a minor league manager, I turn into Art Howe. The GM can put 'em on my roster but I don't have to play 'em. My record and postseason appearance is what I can put on my resume; what do I care for development? There's usually one or two hitters that end the season with five at-bats.

(It's usually not as bad with pitchers - there are usually one or two pretend pitchers on the roster - STU 3, MOV 4, CON 1, you know the drill - but I can throw them out when I'm 0-15 behind in the fourth inning.)

Though come to think of it, I'm also the Anti-Art-Howe. I'll gladly put anyone with a good bat on first base if all my nominal first basemen hit like little boys.

And as little as I care for development, I love teaching players new positions when they have the ratings for it. Makes me feel like the smart guy in the organization.
