Want to use my CF as my closer
So I have a 2-way player that I regularly use as my starting CF. He has a couple of good pitches but no stamina, so I want to use him as a closer.
I have him set as the Closer on the Pitching Staff screen, but when I sim the games, he rarely comes in to pitch ever -- only when he's not in the starting lineup for whatever reason. Is there any way to address this? Is it because I have the DH turns on and moving a fielder to P gets rid of the DH and the computer doesn't want to do that? Or is it because he doesn't necessarily have time to warm up if he's out there in CF? |

it's probably because the game recognizes the player as unavailable when he's starting as a batter. It doesn't happen in real life, so i won't hold your breath waiting on ootpd to "fix" it

Oh well. Mitch Moreland of the Red Sox used to do it in college, come in from RF to close out the game.

It's also that when we may check to insert a new reliever, we don't consider guys already in the lineup. So if you want to do this manually, you can, but two way players where one guy is a starter in the lineup and a reliever occasionally won't really work properly with the AI.

Come to think of it, what does the AI do if an injury leaves them with 8 remaining position players, one of which is the DH?

Stick the chubby 37-year-old reliever at shortstop, just like it does in proper (read: non-DH) leagues.

I wonder if for strange situations like this, you should ask a few managers what they would do in that spot and then have the AI choose between the answers they give you
