Scouting Discrepancies

Not sure where the right place for this post would be.... why is there often a discrepancy between the overall rating shown in the Summary on the main Profile and the one shown on the Scouting pages? At the start of the season, I got a player development update saying a player's overall rating improved to 76, and this is shown on Scouting, but it was 72 on the main profile. A few weeks into the season, the Scouting page still shows 76 but the main profile shows 66. Both are set to display my head scout's rating.

pretty sure this has been brougth up before. may be in last year's forums and possibly in the previous too.

the individual ratings (on 1 player) are all the same, right? those are what matter most.overall is for sorting at best.

nonetheless, maybe you can deduce what it's related to.. try settings in game/globel settings page for league. display above max? maybe one is showing above and one screen is not?

maybe it's related to AI eval with stats/ratings etc... there was never a definitive answer to this in other thread, fwiw. search for it and look for any comment from an ootp rep. i know there was an attempted guess at it at the least from one of them.

It happens IMO because the profile overall and potential rating is displayed in real time, while the ones on the scouting page are updated only after a scouting update. I don’t know why this is, but it just is, and has been for some time.

Part of the problem is that the overall ratings are always relative and therefore change in real time. They aren’t based on component ratings...they are always based on a comparison with other players in the league.

Not to hijack the thread, but I just noticed my own Scouting Discrepancy.

Was trying to work out a trade with the AI. It listed several players that would make the deal work now. One of the players was a MiL 2B rated one star overall, one star potential. I clicked on him to read the scouting report which showed both my scouting director AS WELL AS OSA felt he was a three-star player.

I know this can happen if the player is labeled a different position than the prefered, but actually his best rating was as a 2B.

Quite often when I've sorted the FA list by potential there is a 40 or so potential player (20-80 scale). But, when I look at his scouting page he is given 20 by my head scout (and OSA).

I've followed a few of them and, later, the sort on the FA list has them down to 20 potential. So, I'm not sure where the Summary is pulling from sometimes.

In any case, it's a bit wonky IMO but I just make sure to check both the summary and the latest scouting report on every player I'm interested in.

use a saved filter with low and forgiving thresholds for various batter/pitcher ratings. then sort by con/stuff or whatever and pick through the ones near top with high ratings accross board. the 'best' one won't necessarily be at the top, but it won't miss any of the guys with a lower potential, since you aren't sorting by it. those guys will stand out, even remove the potential column if it affects judgement of the player.

maybe it's because i use 20-80 scale, but i don't see such drastic things. admittedly i don't pay too close attention, but sorting by potential for draft is typical for me in first round or 2. e.g. i may sort by pot, then contact pot when perusing the high-end batters. players always seem to be where they belong pot-wise.

is it just an 'overall' thing? i gotta say the only time i sort by that is my AAA team for ST filler and sometimes injury replacements too -- wherever they may come from.

One thing I've noticed is sometimes a player is scouted for AA in one place and AAA in another place. Another thing that can happen is pitchers are sometimes scouted as RP when they are SP and vice versa. This can cause the "stuff" rating to vary a bit.

In fact, even when the scouting is consistent (same level, position, scout, scouting date), I've noticed that the "stuff" rating always seems to be higher in the player development report than it is on the profile page. Still don't really understand that one. For example, Joe Schmoe's "stuff" rating has increased from 87 to 89 (I use 1-100 scale), but click on the profile and it'll be ~77 instead.
