Does this happen often?
During the last few games of the season, one of the teams that was about to make the playoffs put their star starting pitcher on the trading block. He will probably win the 'Cy Young Award'. I decided to try and acquire that pitcher and I pulled it off, remarkably (trading is set to 'very hard'), but I am wondering how often something like this happens in OOTP?

I think it's after the last patch has something to do with finicials I've seen playoff contenders throw their rp or closet on the block cause their contract sucked but the player was in beast mode and the team needed them. Luckily the AI isn't trading to each other. I usually avoid cause I have the 30th budget do no money.
Needs some kind of logic if in playoff race put prospects on block not active roster. I never see prospects on the block just veterans. Plus they really need to do trade searches for multiple players and money. Like I want to shop 4 prospects and 5 million what is my offer. Playoff teams need to put prospects on block like all the playoff teams are doing for Machado now. Ootp logic is those playoffs teaks would be selling bad contracts even though they are big market and can afford anything |

What was the team’s focus? This actually happened occasionally in previous versions of the game and I think the culprit might be that the team focus feature isn’t dynamic enough. Since the trading block is more active now, more of these guys on winning teams but are FA’s next year might show up. I see playoff teams listed as rebuilding and teams that are having a terrible year listed in win now mode more often than I should. Those type of teams should drop one level down or go one level up. Team focus should update in June/July. Owner personality should still have an effect on it though.

It's not just the trading block shop the most awful guy in your system often you will have those same trans trying to dump contracts but the players are performing elite and they ate playoff hunt teams.
Especially with RP and closers. Wherever kimbrel signs those teams offer him up almost right away. |

this is similar to another thread. if you can rule out near-term financial problems (this year, next, maybe 2 years out or more), it's definitely not something an mlb team often does. i wouldn't say never without perusing 100+ years of history.

There is a problem with the last patch. I can trade marginal minor leaguers for elite players in the last year of their contract. Had to add some "house rules" to prevent taking advantage of this.

Yes, it'll be fixed next patch.
