Historical Retirement issues

I started a historical game as the 1969 expos. In 1970 while he was on the Yankees, Jim Bunning retired, but instead of him being out of the league, he just got moved to the phillies triple a team, even though in his history and in the transaction logs in says he had retired. I've had this happen multiple times in historical games, is there any way to fix this? I have retire according to history turned off and im in challenge mode so I can not retire him manually

I started having problems with this kind of thing in OOTP17 or 18. If I left the "import real historical rookies" or whatever that checkbox in the Historical league settings is, and then went from the postseason to the offseason, I would find that players who had retired in my game, but NOT retired in real life, were getting imported into the game with the same ID and effectively "unretired", even though they weren't.

Jim Bunning didn't retire in real life until 1971 with the Phillies, so that could be what's happening here.

I don't understand why it's happening, especially to me. I have real life retirements turned off, I have my historical rookies imported and getting drafted instead of importing to their real teams, but something was making these players re-appear. I was having players who had retired years ago due to an in-game injury suddenly show up healthy and on his real life team's major league roster because their ratings were still good!

I worked around this issue by simply unchecking the "Import real historical rookies" box (sorry I can't remember exactly what it's called - don't have the game in front of me) when moving from postseason to offseason, and then re-checking it as soon as I'm in the offseason. I haven't had the problem happen since.

I'm fairly certain I reported this in the bug reports forum, and a couple of other people were having the problem, but it didn't seem to be widespread. There must be something specific about our leagues causing the issue.

Couple of questions about your league setup just out of curiosity:

1) Has this league been imported from previous versions?
2) Are you drafting real historical rookies or importing them to FA or real teams?
3) When is your draft scheduled?

Well that shoots my theory about it only affecting leagues based on an older database (i.e. imported leagues). My draft is scheduled for September 15 every year. Was March 1st the default draft date that OOTP uses now or did you move it? I feel like the default used to be November 1...

The default was november 1st, but I moved it later to march so there would be time for compensation signings and is historical games a lot of the guys drafted are major league ready so if its in march they would be ready for opening day

Interesting. Maybe sometime when I have some more free time I can try starting a new historical league with the draft left at the default November 1st to see if I still have the problem. I imagine there are plenty of people who play historical with drafting real rookies - I would think whatever this bug is would've been quashed by now unless it only happens under a specific set of circumstances.

Anyway, I can't help you for this season, but next offseason, try that workaround - uncheck the "import real rookies" box before moving from last day of postseason to first day of offseason - you shouldn't see anyone "come out of retirement." Just don't forget to re-check it once you go from Day 1 to Day 2 of the offseason. That's worked for me so far.
