Broken 6-man rotation

I ran into a strange bug with the newest hotfix.

Situation: It's late September 2024, my Padres have clinched the division so I bring up guys from triple-A and go to a 6-man rotation with rotation mode set to strict order - or at least I try to. I have to manage it by hand a little; the 6th spot is for the AAA call-up who, according to my plan, gets his first career start between my 1st and 2nd starters because he needed an extra day's rest.

My #1 starter starts without issues. Then, the #6 guy gets his start, and I set the #2 guy to start next - but he doesn't. Instead, the game picks a middle reliever for the start, even though the #2 starter is in full health and 100 % rested. I set the #2 guy to start the next game, and the game picks a middle reliever to start again. It happens three times in a row (and by now, my entire bullpen is exhausted); then, when I do nothing, the game proceeds to the #3 starter in a normal fashion. Then, I try to give the #2 a start on the final day of the season, and instead of him, the game starts my #1 guy (who throws a 122-pitch complete game, because the bullpen guys are about to have their arms drop off).

(The files have been uploaded under the title "Broken 6-man rotation".)

When I went to a 4-man rotation for the play-offs, everything worked fine (for the first three starters anyway, which was the extent of my postseason involvement this time).

I don't know if it's related, but it also seems like my starters can appear in relief, even though I have starters relieving set to 'no'. In a 17 inning regular season game, the game picked my next starter to come in in the 15th.

We'll probably have to wait till Matt and Markus get back to take a look at this, but hopefully we can check it out soon.

Thanks.

I've now played two more seasons, and I ran into the same problem in the final game of the 2026 regular season, even though I was still going with a 5-man rotation. My ace was scheduled to start the final game, bug I wanted him fresh for the divisional series so I put my up-and-coming youngster in for his first career start (he had been doing relief duty with the big team since the all-star break). The game again picked a middle reliever to start. (Fortunately, it didn't totally mess up my bullpen - he went six innings, and none of my other postseason pitchers threw more than 15 pitches).

During the last 2-3 days of a season, the game is set to skip the top starters if you have clinched a playoff spot. So ideally if you want someone else starting, you should throw them as the #5 starter for example.

With a strict order, though, we should try to keep it strict. Looks like we might still be messing up in some cases, so can fix it up a bit more to make sure it's only skipping guys in those cases when they're tired.

The unfortunate part about this is it's hard for us to try to decide between "I'm throwing this guy in my #1 spot because I want to skip my #1 guy's start" vs "this guy is my #1 guy", so we can't always have the game logic mix and match between the two of them. I've got an idea to clean this up for the next patch

Some potential suggestions going forward:
-Use the "bench player for X days" option if you want to skip your #1 or #2 guys at the end
-Use 7-day lineups to have explicit control over starters
-Start games and set the starter manually
