Help me choose my catcher going forward by stats
Scouting is on and I'm trying to decide between Catchers. Here are their defensive stats. Catcher A on top, Catcher B on the bottom.
![]() Catcher A has been my starter for 2 seasons and hit to the tune of: Year 1 - .265/.317/.462, .779 OPS, 111 OPS+ in 47 games as a rookie Year 2 - .297/.349/.441, .790 OPS, 118 OPS+ in 127 games, 3.6 WAR This year - 71 games .238/.349/.362, .710 OPS, 92 OPS+ Catcher B is a rookie this year so some AAA stats plus this year Last year in AAA - 103 games - .290/.373/.455, .829 OPS, 113 OPS+ MLB this year - 52 games, 27 starts - .267/.346/.467, .812 OPS, 115 OPS+ Catcher B has a little more power than A |

They both look pretty usable although I'd lean towards "B". Sounds like he's the younger player too. I'd probably keep both for now and then trade or not-resign "A" when he starts to get expensive.

Actually Catcher A is about 100 days younger than B, but B was a late bloomer of sorts. I was kinda thinking the same thing as you said though, that or see if A could bring back a nice prospect or two

Personally, I would like some more information.
What does your scout think about their defensive ratings? Does catcher A have a much better catcher ability rating to pair with having a much better CERA? What hand do they bat with? Is platooning an option? |

Both are lefty batters otherwise I'd love to platoon them. As far as ratings the scale is 2-8 so I try to go mostly by stats but their ratings are: Catcher A: 5 ability 5 arm/ OSA 5 ability 6 arm Catcher B: 4 ability 5 arm/ OSA 5 ability 6 arm |

It sounds to me like A is a little better defensively, which might be manifesting itself in the CERA, but B has the ability to improve and is a better hitter now. If it were me, I would hang onto both of them so that I would be covered for injuries. When B improves, I would look to flip A.
