GM/Manager and Stadium annoucement
November 11th, 2016
Expos' owner Jim Kearney announced today the hiring of Dave Brandt as the 1st GM and Manager of the new Expos. "It is an honour to be given the huge responsibility to lead this franchise, I know this isn't a typical expansion situation as there is a long proud history of baseball in Montreal. I know the fans here have been craving baseball for a long time, I plan to get to work right away" said Brandt. Kearney also announced that they will be breaking ground on a new downtown stadium in the spring and that it will open in April of 2020. The Expos' first 2 seasons will be played at the Olympic Stadium. It is currently unknown, whether or not the planned construction of a new retractable roof will affected yet, however Mayor Valerie Plante did say "We has lots of time before we absolutely need the new roof ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we will weight our options on whether to postpone the construction until 2020 or maybe plan the 2019 season without a roof." She added "It's the Olympic Stadium, what could possibly go wrong??" |

Opening Night in Montreal
April 2nd - W 6-1 vs San Diego
What an opening night, a sold out raucous crowd returned to the Olympic Stadium for the 1st time since September of 2004 to see baseball. The atmosphere was unbelievable, nothing could quiet the fans and they got even louder when Aledmys Diaz hit the home run in franchise history in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. Home Runs were the story on opening night as all the Expos scoring would come off them (Lagares, Sedegin). Josh Tomlin was stellar throwing 7, giving up 4H 1 ER and 8Ks. April 3rd - L 1-3 vs San Diego Tyson Ross shut Montreal down going 7 giving up 7H 1ER 4Ks. Expos starter Matt Andriese had a quality start and left with the game tied in the 7th, but RHP Matt Bush give up a 2 run home run to Austin Hedges and took the loss. April 3rd - L 3-5 vs San Diego The Padres may the most of their 6 hits tonight scoring 5 runs. Carlos Asuaje was 3/4 with a HR and 2 RBIs. Montreal kept it close with HRs by Rob Sedegin and Hunter Renfroe, but Brad Hand shut it down in the 9th for the save April 5th - W 2-1 vs San Francisco Ty Blach was good for the Giants, but Chad Bettis was better giving up on 3 hits and 1 run in 6 1/3. Again all the scoring came up home runs, with Wilmer Flores and Hunter Renfroe going deep for Montreal and Joe Panik for the Giants April 6th - W 6-3 vs San Francisco Brandon Crawford's 2 run scoring double put the Giants up 2-0 after the 2nd but the Expos poured it on in the 3rd with Aledmys Diaz's 3 run HR and in the 4th SP Tyler Duffey helping himself out with a 2 run double. Matt Bush again was shaky in relief, setting up Dellin Betances for his 2nd save of the season April 7th - W 6-1 vs San Francisco The Expos complete their first ever franchise sweep winning 6-1. Rob Sedegin started it off in the 1st with a 2 run double off Jeff Samardzija. SP Josh Tomlin again only gives up 1 run this time in 5 innings. A.Diaz and H.Renfore both homer again to pull the Expos away. RHP Chris Devenski and veteran LHP Jeff Blevins combine for 3 shutout innings to end it. Standings Expos 4-2 tied for 1st with Miami Last edited by 1994WSChamps; 07-06-2018 at 04:46 PM. |

Week 2
April 9th - L 5-7 @ Arizona
Paul Goldschmidt hit for the cycle! He went 5/5 with 2 RBIs including a 1st inning HR off Matt Andriese. Daniel Descalso also homered in the 3rd to put the DBacks up 5-1. H.Renfroe's 4th HR in 7 games helped get the Expos close but Archie Bradley and Joakim Soria shut down the rally with perfect 8th and 9th innings April 10th- W 4-3 @ Arizona (12) The Expos and DBacks alternated home runs and RBI singles in the 1st, 2nd and 5th that would lead to a 3-3 tie in the top of the 12th. Juan Lagares' lead off walk led to Lusi Guillorne hitting a SAC Fly to take the lead 4-3 before Dellin Betances closed it out in the bottom of the innings for his 3 save. April 11th- W 5-4 @ Arizona Down 1-0 in the 6th, the Expos exploded for 4 runs, the key hit being Rob Sedegin's 2 run double. Paul Goldschmidt's 2 run HR in the 8th got Arizona to within one, but Betances keep in for the second straight night to get the save April 12th- W 6-0 vs Miami The Expos blow out of the gates with 6 in the 1st, Renfroe, Sedegin and Lagares all single in runs off Chris O'Grady before Wilmer Flores finished it off with a 3 run HR. Tyler Duffey was lights in the shutout almost going the distance, giving up only 3 Hs in 8 1/3 with 9 Ks April 13th- W 7-4 vs Miami Another 6 spot in the 1st puts Montreal out to a 6-1 lead early. Renfroe hit his 5th HR to blow it open early. Tomlin wasn't as sharp as his first 2 starts giving up a 2 run HR to Bret Anderson in the 2nd inning to allow the Marlins back into it. The Bullpen would combine for 5 shutout innings to win 7-4 April 14th- L 4-5 vs Miami The Expos blow a fantastic 7 inning, 3 H 0 ER performance from Matt Andriese in the 9th. Up 4-1, with an tired bullpen, Deverski, Blevins and Bush are all forced into action. Deverski and Blevins set the table for Bush to serve up a 3 run HR to Martin Prado. April 15th- L 4-8 vs Miami Miami gets 6 on Ororizzi in 3 innings, including back to back to back jacks in the 3rd from Justin Bour, Derek Dietrich and Starlin Castro. Big early season win for the Marlins to keep them 1 game up on Montreal Standings Expos 8-5 1 GB of Miami Last edited by 1994WSChamps; 07-06-2018 at 09:54 PM. |

Week 3
April 16th - W 5-4 vs NYMets
Both Chad Bettis and Steve Matz were shaky early before settling down. Bettis gave up a 3 run HR to Jay Bruce in the 3rd to give the Mets a 3-1 lead, but Matz gave 3 right back in the bottom of the innings, Guillorne had a big 2 run 3 triple before scoring himself. Bradon Nimmo's RBI double to tie knock Bettis out of the game after 6 2/3. Tied in the bottom of the 9th, Seth Lugo comes in for the Mets, he gives up a 1 out single to Diaz and follows it up with an HBP. Luis Guillorne caps off a night of clutch hits with a walk off single. April 17th - L 1-3 vs NYMets Mets starter Jason Vargas was forced to leave early in the 4th, but 5 relievers combine to hold the Expos to 1 run and only 4 hits. Adrian Gonzalez leads the Mets offense going 4/4 with what would turn out to be the game winning HR in the 7th and 2 RBIs April 18th - L 3-7 vs NYMets With the bullpen tired, Tomlin is forced to face the Mets order for the 3rd time and it doesn't go well 2 run HRs from Bruce and Travis D'Arnaud in the 7th April 19th - W 6-4 vs NYMets Andriese really didn't help him with 2 errors in the 4th inning, instead of the inning being over, he faced Jose Reyes with 2 on and 1 out. Reyes crushed one over the fence in left-center. But the Expos didn't roll over, Harvey narrowly escaped the 5th giving back only 1 after getting Lagares to ground into a double play. Harvey gave back another in the 6th and with the score 4-3 Mets in the 7th his last pitch was a double to Lagares. The bullpen couldn't bail him out as Renfroe doubles in a couple to give the Expos a 6-4 lead. Boxberger and Betances close out the 8th and 9th to split the series April 20th - L 1-4 vs Philadelphia Jake Arrieta rolls the Expos lineup for 8 innings, the Phillies sprinkle in 4 singles, including solo HRs by Herrera and Altherrr April 21st - L 6-9 vs Philadelphia With mediocre starts from both Bettis and Kazmir, the game was tied 4-4. A critical error at 2B by Diaz allowed Nick Williams to hit a 3 run HR to take a 7-4 lead. Adam Frazier and Lagares drove in runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to one but that was as close as the Expos would get April 22nd - W 8-6 vs Philadelphia The Expos got to Blake Lively in the 4th and 5th on HRs from Diaz and Sedegin, up 8-1 the Phillies put up a bunch in the 8th but it wasn't enough. Duffey gets the win to move to 3-0 Standings Expos 11-9 2 1/2 GB Miami Last edited by 1994WSChamps; 07-09-2018 at 11:59 AM. |

Week 4
April 24th W 9-4 @ Cincinnati
Montreal torches Luis Castillo for 6 runs and 3 HRs (Diaz, Flores, Renfroe) in the 1st innings. Tomlin throw 7 1/3 giving up 7 H and 2 ERs April 25th W 6-5 @ Cincinnati Expos and Reds went back and forth thru 6, but Luis Guillorne HR in the 7th off Suarez gave Montreal a lead they would not relinquish. The Reds did challenge, but after Blevins loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th, he got Scott Schebler to ground into the inning ending double play. April 26th L 2-4 @ Cincinnati Yan Gomes and Adam Frazier homered off Gallardo in the 2nd and 3rd respectively to give Montreal a 2-0 lead. Odorizzi was great until allowing a 2 run HR to Votto in the 6th to tie. Micheal Felix would get the loss giving up run scoring singles to Gennett and Winker in the 8th and the Reds avoid the sweep. April 27th L 1-2 @ St.Louis(15) Greg Garcia drove in what would be St.Louis' only run for the next 14 innings in the first off Chad Bettis. It looked like it was end 1-0 until Wilmer Flores hit a run scoring single in the 9th off Luke Gregerson redeeming himself after hitting into a double play to kill the Expos' only previous rally. The cold and wind keep a lot of balls in the yard tonight and as the game went on, the odds grew in the Cards favour. In the 15th with the Expos down to their last available RP, Chris Deverski gave up a walk off HR to Ozuna to end the agony. April 28th W 2-1 @ St.Louis A Dustin Fowler SAC Fly followed by a Aledmys Diaz (6th) HR gave Montreal a 2-0 in the 3rd. Duffey went 5IP, 3H 1ER 9Ks and the Bullpen threw 4 shutout innings, culminating in Jose Alvarado's first career save. April 29th L 4-6 @ St.Louis Dustin Fowler's career game was wasted as the Expos keep Tomlin in an inning to long, due to an exhausted bullpen. Fowler hit 2 run HRs in the 1st and 4th, Tomlin gave up 3 in the 7th to let the Cards back in it. Felix got his 2nd loss of the week when he gave up a 3- run HR to Ozuna, who got his 2nd game winnings HR of the series. Standings Expos 14-11 1 GB Miami |

Week 5
April 30th L 1-3 @ Chicago
With the wind blowing it at Wrigley, the game went as expected. Zobrist got a 2-out RBI off Andriese in the 5th to take a 1-0. The Expos finally put something together on Quintana in the 6th, who left with 14 Ks in only 6 2/3! Diaz knocked in Frazier to tie the game and chase Quintana. Unfortunately Bryant's solo HR in the bottom of the inning was enough to give the Cubs the win. May 1st W 8-7 @ Chicago Facing the best team in baseball with a tired bullpen, the Expos needed a quality start from Odorizzi. They didn't get it. Contreras and Baez combined for 5/9 4R 5RBIs, each with a HR off Odorizzi. Down 6-1 in the 7th, it looked dire for Montreal, but back to back HRs from the bottom of the order, including the first ofDanny Jansen's career cut the lead to 6-3. In the 8th the rally continued with a Sedegin single chasing Chris Edwards, the ever consistant Pedro Strop came to quail the rally but instead gave up a PH HR to Juan Lagares, but in the bottom of the inning Contreras hit his 2nd HR of the day off Boxberger to give the CUbs a 7-5 lead. Again Montreal did not quit. Closer Brandon Morrow started off the 9th with a lead off walk to Frazier and 2 batters later a single to Diaz. Sedegin capped off the rally with a 2 out 2 run double, which allowed Betances to close it out for his 8th save. May 2nd L 0-1 @ Chicago The Expos thought they caught a huge break when Jon Lester was forced to leave the game in the 4th but the Cubs bullpen combined for 5 2/3 shutout innings. The game only run came in the Cubs half of the 5th. Chad Bettis loaded the bases. With 2 out, LHP Jose Alvarado was brought in to face Kyle Schwarber and walked in a run. May 3rd W 6-2 @ Chicago Sedegin hit a 2-run HR (7th) off Kyle Hendricks in the 1st, Gomes (3rd) followed up in the 2nd with a solo and so did Flores (7th) in the 3rd. Duffey was solid for 5 innings, not giving up an ER as he moved to 5-0. The expansion Expos split a series with the #1 team in baseball! May 4th W 6-3 vs Washington Montreal fans has been waiting for Nationals to come to town for a long time. They were not disappointed tonight. Josh Toimlin had another strong start, throwing 7IP with only 5H, 2ER and 8Ks. The Expos lit up Nats pitching for 14 hits. Fowler(6) hit a 3-run HR in the 5th and Renfroe(10) a 2-run HR in the 7th. Frazier and Diaz contributed 3 hits each. May 5th W 4-3 vs Washington Not a great start tonight as a couple hits in the 1st and a Diaz error would give the Nats a 2-0 lead. Andriese settled down pitching 6 13 strong innings and left with the game tied at 3-3 thanks to Diaz's (7) 2-run HR in the 5th. The bullpens carried the game to extras, both the Nats Ryan Madson and Expos Jerry Blevins used double plays to espace jams in the 8th. Shawn Kelley gave up a lead off single in 10 to Renfroe and Luis Guillorne's triple gave the Expos the win. May 6th W 5-2 vs Washington Both Tanner Roark and Jake Odorizzi has trouble early, the difference was Odorizzi settled down to throw 7IP with 5H 2ER for his 1st W of the season. Yan Gomes drove in the winner in the 6th and Luis Guillorne followed up with some insurance with a 2 run single. Fans in Montreal could not be happier to be sending Washington home with a sweep. Standings Expos 19-14 1/2 GB New York |

Week 6
May 7th - L 0-5 @ Pittsburgh
Ivan Nova, who was passed up by both expansion teams throws a complete game shutout allowing 6 hits with 7 Ks. Expos start Chad Bettis was roughed up in only 4 innings worked. Corey Dickerson especially got to him going 2/4 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs and a home run, all coming off Bettis who falls to 2-3. May 8th - W 6-5 @ Pittsburgh Frank Cervelli and Jordy Mercer singled in runs in the 4th to chase Duffey and Josh Bell hit a 2-run homer off Boxberger in 7 to give the Pirates a 4-1 lead. Starter Trevor Williams left the game in possible to get the win after 7 IP giving up 4H and 0ERs, however the Expos absolutely torch RP Dovydas Neverauskas in the 8th after getting the leadoff man, he went BB, BB, 1B, 1B, 1B, 1B. The Expos tallied 5 to take a 6-4 lead and never looked back. May 9th - L 0-4 @ Pittsburgh The Pirates get another gem, this time from Steve Brault who comes up 1 out short of a complete game shutout, he allowed only 4 hits and struck out 9. May 10th - W 7-0 @ NYMets Tonight it was the Expos turn to get a gem from their starter. Andriese goes 8 1/3 allowing 5 hits and striking out 10! Diaz contributed 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Renfroe hit his 11th bomb of the season to blow it open May 12th - L 2-3 @ NYMets Odorizzi pushed DeGrom has far as he could. Jake threw 7IP of 4 hit ball giving up 2ERs, while Jacob threw 8IP of 2 hit ball giving up 2ERs. It was a Yan Gomes (6) solo, that basically ended DeGrom's night and tied the game at 2-2. LHP Alvarado came in in the 8th to push pitch hitter Melky Cabrera to hit from the right side, unfortunately it seems that's what Melky wanted, cause he homered to opposite field to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. Familia came in to shut Montreal down for his 13th save. May 13th - W 1-0 @ NYMets Chad Bettis with what was likely the best start of his career goes 8IP allowing only 3 hits and 6Ks. Matz went the full 9 allowing only 4 hits unforuntaly for him one of them was Hunter Renfroe's 12th HR of the season in the 7th innings. Huge series win for the Expos Standings Expos 22-17 1 1/2 GB the Mets |

Week 7
May 15th - L 0-6 @ Atlanta
The last place Braves get exactly what they needed from Luiz Gohara tonight as he goes 8 1/3 allowing 5 hits. Ozzie Albies had 2 run doubles off both Tomlin and Alvarado. Tomlin drops to 4-3 May 16th - L 4-6 @ Atlanta Tyler Duffey got his 1st loss of the season. The Braves blew open a 3-2 game in the 5th on a RBI from Dansby Swanson followed by a 2-run single from Johan Camargo. May 17th - L 4-8 @ Atlanta Again they sure didn't look like the last place Braves. Andriese was forced to leave in the 2nd and the Braves immediately went to work on Devenski. Inciarte's ingle drove in 2, Markaskis another and Albies 2 more to give Atlanta a 5-0 lead. The Expos use up the whole bullpen and lose by 4. An extremely disappointing series in Atlanta. May 18th - W 8-3 vs Baltimore Another starter goes down as Alex Cobbs lasts 1/3 of an inning. Montreal eats up the Orioles bullpen. Frazier, Lagares, Diaz at the top of the order combine for 8/14 4Rs 6RBIs and 2 HRs. Odorizzi gaves 7 2/3 8Hs 2ERs 12Ks! 12Ks being a new Expos record May 19th - W 4-2 vs Baltimore This time it's 2 thru 4 doing the damage for Montreal, going 7/10 scoring all 4 runs. Renfroe's RBI double in the 6th turned out to the game winner May 20th - W 6-5 vs Baltimore Tomlin is roughed up again, only lasting 4 after giving up a 3-run homer to Rasmus in the first inning, but the Expos battle back. Renfore's solo, his 13th of the season in the 3rd ties it at 3-3. Chris Tillman batting for the first time this season helps himself out with a 2-run double in the 5th to go up 5-3, but Renfroe drives in another in the bottom of the inning, part of his 4/4 3RBI night. Brian Goodwin gets a clutch 2 run pitch hit single in 7 to go up 6-5. 5 relievers combine for 5 shutout innings, Betances closes it out for the 11th time. Expos bounce back to sweep Baltimore Standings Expos 25-20 1/2 GB Miami |

Week 8
May 22nd - L 3-8 @ Toronto
Tyler Duffey is becoming what we thought he was.... average. He left after 5, down 3-0. Starter Murphy Smith allowed Montreal back in it with RBI singles from Frazier and Gonzalez in the 6th, but that's as close as they got. Devon Travis crushed a Matt Bush fastball in the 8th for a 3-run HR to end it. May 23rd - L 4-5 @ Toronto Back and forth early on, it was Juan Lagares 2-run double that gave Montreal the lead in the 7th and forced Stroman out of the game. But in the bottom on the 8th despite the fact Will Harris got the loss, it Michael Feliz who loaded the bases and walked in a run. Alvardo allowed the game winning single to come off Kevin Pillar's bar. Tough, tough to our main rival down the Trans-Canada. May 24th - L 2-4 @ Toronto Danny Jansen hits a RBI double in the second and Brain Goodwin a RBI single in the 4th off J.Happ to take a 2-0. Happ would then go 8IP allowing no other runs. Andriese went 6, only allowing 3 hits, but one of them was a 2 run shot to Josh Donaldson to tie the game. Once again the bullpen doesn't hold the fort as Alvarado gives up a 2-run single Justin Smoak after Matt Bush put 2 guys on, he got the loss to go to 2-3. May 25th - L 3-6 @ NYYankees Expos go tit for tat thru 5 with the Yankees. Starters Bettis and Montgomery had similar outings. A homer from Wilmer Flores and double from Brett Gardner make it 3-3. And heeeeeeeeeerrrrre comes the Expos bullpen. Michael Feliz in with a game facing Judge .... Home Run, 3 batters later now facing Ellsbury ..... Home Run. Same old story. May 26th - L 4-12 @ NYYankees For the first time this season the Expos get absolutely destroyed. The Yankees smash 20 hits off Expos pitching, 10 off Tomlin who last 2 1/3. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 25th Home Run of the season .... it's May 26th May 27th - L 0-6 @ NYYankees Maybe Duffey isn't average, maybe he's bad? He gets to the airport early after an Aaron Judge solo and Brett Lawrie 2-run double in the 4th. Severino is as advertised getting the complete game shutout with only 4 hits and 8Ks. 6 in a row... at least we're going home Standings Expos 25-26 5 GB of NYMets |

week 9
May 28th - L 3-4 vs Boston(13)
Jake Odorizzi is forced to leave after only 2/3 of an inning. Jackie Bradley Jr, one of the 3 hitters Odorizzi faced homers, some maybe it wasn't a bad thing? M.Feliz gives up 2 more off a Rick Porcello double! Montreal does settle it down, they get to within one, then with 2 out in the 9th and Porcello still pitching Diaz for the 10th time to tie it. Unfortunately with the starter not getting out of the 1st, Montreal is forced to exhaust a tired bullpen, in the 13th it ends the way it started, with a Jackie Bradley Jr home run. 7 in a row, the bleeding won't stop May 29th - W 5-2 vs Boston It starts just how last night ended, with another Bradley Jr Home Run, it continued in the 2nd with a Bogaerts homer, but Montreal answered everytime. Renfroes run scoing single in the 1st, Andriese helped himself out with a RBI in the 2nd and Diaz's (11) solo in the 3rd. Andriese doesn't look back after the 2 early HRs. He throws 8IP only 4 hits and 7Ks for the win (2-3). The streak is over! May 30th - L 3-4 vs Boston There was pretty much no difference between Bettis and Pomeranz. The difference was Boston's bullpen got the job done and Montreal's didn't notiable, Boxberger giving the game tying single to Bradley Jr(!!!) and Blevins the game winning single to Devers all in the 7th. That difference moved Pomeranz to 8-0 on the season. Some kids have all the luck May 31st - L 2-10 vs St.Louis Luke Weaver blows away the Expos lineup for 7 before giving up 2 meaningless runs in the 8th. Tomlin doesn't get to the 4th AGAIN. The Cardinals terrible defense (3 errors) didn't even matter, this one was never close. Jun 1st - W 7-2 vs St.Louis Every Expo but Gomes had a hit as they rolled to a 7-2 victory. Diaz and Renfroe in the middle were partically good. Duffey throws 6 solid innings to move to 6-3. Carlos Martinez continues to struggle for St.Louis. He was 0-3 with a 10.00 ERA coming in, and it's worse after his 2 2/3. Jun 2nd - W 2-0 vs St.Louis Odorizzi throws 8 1/3 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and 7Ks. Wacha is almost as good for the Cards but Guillorne and Frazier knocked in runs in the 5th, that's all the Expos needed. Jun 3rd - W 5-3vs St.Louis The Expos and Andriese dominate for 8 innings, allowing only 5 hits and 2 9th inning runs that seemed meaningless. A few batters later it's 5-3 with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Thankfully Devenski got his 2nd save of the season. Expos win 3 in a row. Standings Expos 29-29 4 GB of NYMets |
