sim speed for a first game ? (advices are welcome)

hi guys,

as a brand new ootp player, i was wondering what is the best sim speed to play with for a very first league.

i ve created a fictionnal league with 2 divisions of 4 teams each, to be familiar with the players. 102 games by years (don't ask me why ).

I played the first season, and it tooks me something like 3h IRL.

I missed the playoffs, and my boss isn't very happy.

i ve reached the objectives,

-resigning a rock star player (btw it tooks me my money for the rest of the season)

- hire a personnal
- setup the team to reach the playoffs in 3 years.

of course i was not rich enought to resign my out of contract players, who asked me to stay .

I ve simmed the season by weeks for the most part, and i checked my mail between every sim, i tried to deal with my injured players, but to be honnest, i have the felling that i ve missed some things to do.

because i was out of money, i was only checking for my injured players and that it.

any ideas to enjoy the game and going deeper in it ? i feel a little bit frustrated and i don't know what to do for the next season to come.
Thanks, have a nice day

well, i have interuptions set for things i do as opposed to delegate -- like injuries or anything that requires attention for a 25-man roster decision.

possibly a midseason prospect call-up that improves that last bit you wanted? but, mostly the sim stops when i have to care about something. i don't have to keep track of as much mundane stuff this way.

managers's office - Control settings or something like that. strongly suggest you never use the check box for "don't interrupt, ever" [sic] ... i chop it down to minimum, but i'm not into interruptions for the news and general player info not my own and such. even so, i never use 'do not disturb'.

how much you need to do by hand is a matter of choice. i wouldn't worry so much form the perspective as always doing 1 week or 1 month, though. tailor it to whatever it is you are doing by hand to ensure it acts as you want.

e.g. if you have 2 catchers that you want to share C/DH, you likely need to use weekly depth charts or something that will force you to stop, reset something, then start simming again.

maybe that's fixed in '19? c/dh primary roles smart enough to switch as needed or based on depth chart options already existing....

when i don't have anything specific to hand-tailor or any near-mlb prospect to check-in on, i will just hit sim and wait for an interruption.
