Back to Cato 4.1 and more errors
After several unsuccessful (and publicized) re-tries with cato5 I have decided to completely redo the cato program from scratch.
This means going back 10 seasons and starting with Cato4 with my OOTP4 seasons. So, I start. And right away I get an error. "There is a problem with the players.csv on line 2. The most likely cause is invalid data in the homestate field. Open in Wordpad and uncheck wordwrap, etc." So I go into wordpad and uncheck word wrap. Run it again and get the same error for Line 369. The homestate field is blank for all players and wordwrap is unchecked. I dont see anything weird on line 368/367/369. I cant get this thing to work. Even if I populate the field (and the field preceding it) with a word, it still doesnt work.

Okay I did find something weird on line 369. The column "NCont Yrs" for line 369 has the figure 19267584. most others are 0 or a small number.
Wish I knew what that column is. I'll have to look up Joe.

As I answer my own questions (i feel like a mad scientist entering into a diary).......
![]() That field is for extension years. I changed it and it did not help. I am still getting an error on line 2. I noticed that line 2 has a blank name, a blank birthday and blank other lines. After editing it, the program still crashes on line 2. I'm thinking about just deleting that line altogether. Okay I delete line 2 and I still get an error on line 2. There's a major problem with this homestate field and I can't figure it out.

This is the type of thing that has been stopping me from trying out the Cato utility. If and when I attempt this for our online league, I plan to reserve an entire afternoon to get it up and running. Pretty scary.

I replied to the email with fixed file, but as I said in the email there might be something wrong with the league file that will still come back every season even though the players.csv file is fixed now now . I hope it's smooth sailing from now on - when the Cato app works it's actually fun to run, but when it crashes frequently it is an arduous task to generate the pages.
BTW, the http://www.hblbaseball.com/ (I assume that is where this league is from) looks fantastic. |
