Inaugural Draft
Is there a way to have an inaugural draft with all the players in history? I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
Thanks! Yankee Clipper is online now Report Post |

there's a 'way' to get them all, but i have not done such a thing.
this link shows how to create a txt file with a list of historical players for import before you schedule an inaugural draft as they'll be added to pool once you create it. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...02&postcount=2 and, an older thread, just in case it has some tidbits of use: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...69&postcount=6 "all" would be too many, of course. but, if you want it? if there's not an 'all' option/checkbox in the import window, you'll have to make a txt file with all the id's. maybe some cut/paste from existing historics db files could make it quick and easy to get them all? i'm sure there's a way to make it easy to accomplish. |

column B in the MLB and MiLB .csv files has the player IDs. You could easily cut and paste the entire column in theory - but i've never tried to do more than a year at a time, so i am not certain. The issue i see is getting the correct year for the players to import (in the coma space years .... ", 1932"). Those years are in column AA (i think it's that in 19 now ... used to be column Z in 18.) Without that, it won't work, but also the ages of the players would be all over the place if you didn't use the real years of the players career. If you were setting up a 2015 year as when you were to play, without specifying you wanted the 1924 Babe Ruth, or the 1895 Cy Young, or a 1961 Roger Maris many players could come in at over 100 yrs old. Not ideal i suspect.
The solution is to scroll over to the AA column after each player to get his debut year (from that point you could pick his best year to enter if you knew it.). That's a LOT of work, but it's the only solution i know. also be aware if you do this, it may take a long time to import that many players, so be patient. Good luck and let us know how this works, or doesn't.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen
I was hoping there would be a way to hold an inaugural draft using all the players in MLB history. IMHO, it is a shame there is no such opportunity to play that way. As for the ages of players I was hoping we could select the age group we want the players to be in the draft. There is that section in the game where we can select what ages we want the (international?) free agents to come into the league? Why couldn't we use the same thing and select what ages we want the innuragual draft pool to be. So while I may want the league date to start in 1975 I could use the modern day or dead ball era (or any time period)for the base stats that the league would use. Then I hold the inaugural draft, all the undrafted players go back into the rookie draft pool to be presented in subsequent years. Just like a real draft. Then couldn't there just be another drop down menu to select what ages we want the rookies to be revealed from the youngest age to the oldest, like we already use now. |

![]() maybe post your idea of being able to select players via drop down menus in the board for suggestions: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...lay.php?f=3866 the developers might be able to do something along those lines if they get enough feedback.

All in the players in history would be WAY to many players.
The best option the game offers is random debut. What that offers is a draft full of random players from all of baseball, with random players entering the draft each year. |
