Game score/ Player of the game?

When viewing the box score of a game I have just played or simmed I noticed these two stats. Player of the game seems to be the MVP of the game. Game score seems to be a stat for pitchers only. I do not see these stats anywhere else in the game. Does anyone know what game score is used for or how it is calculated?

Incidentally, OOTP uses the original version of Game Score, not Tom Tango's more recent version.
