Question about historical lineups and transactions
I just started a historical game and I'm managing the 2003 Detroit Tigers. I have historical lineups and transactions turned on.
Two major questions: 1) Other than referencing schedules and results on baseball-reference, how do I know which pitchers are supposed to be starting soon? I don't want to bring in a reliever if he's scheduled to start a game two days later, as an example. 2) Why aren't the rosters correct? On April 3, 2003 in real life, Franklyn German pitched an inning for the Tigers in a 3-0 loss to the Twins. In my sim on April 3, 2003, he wasn't even on my roster. Now, I'm a manager only, so the AI is the GM, and is that why? I have a guy on my roster who didn't even pitch in 2003 (Tyler Walker) and Franklyn German is in Rookie ball. 3) Does the "Cannot be fired" option disappear with Challenge Mode? I have Challenge Mode turned on but don't see the option to not get fired. Can I get some help with these questions?

1. If you're manipulating the lineups for your team with real lineups turned on, you will have to use something like Baseball Reference to make sure he doesn't make a start in the upcoming days. I've only played this way in early 20th century seasons, it's a little easier to manage bullpens back then.
2. The real lineups don't take into account relievers used. It primarily reflects the starting lineups for each game. If German is just a reliever and didn't pitch that much all season, the AI may be keeping him in the minors. 3. If you have Challenge Mode on, you can't choose Commissioner Mode or Cannot be Fired. |

But if historical transactions are turned on, why isn't German already on the active roster?

bump
If German should already be on the active roster, and there's no real-life transaction putting him on the active roster in the future, will he ever be on my active roster?

I tried the same thing starting in 1989. Jack McDowell was out the 1989 season, but back in 1990. The game never put him back on the White Sox since there was not an official transaction made to put him there. So the answer is, unless there was a trade or free agency historical transaction, I would say "NO" he will not be on the team in the future. You will need to manually put him on the team..

I played 1991 as a GM and Manager using historical transactions. I turned on trades and signed free agents. The game was not concerned about relief pitchers, but starters in lineup and rotation made a difference. Trading for Dave Stieb did not allow him to start for my team or another. Alan Trammel would not start for my team either. But Lee Smith was allowed to be my closer.
