Best team to "rebuild"?
I'm a big fan of taking a terrible team, and over 3-5 years attempting to turn them into a dynasty. What team do you guys think this is the best with? The hardest one, even though I am yet to try them, is probably the Mets, no future, no trade pieces, bad contracts. Teams like the White Sox and Padres aren't as fun since they have a very bright future ahead of them. Who do you guys think would be a fun team to rebuild?

I like the Angels. The owner gives you 4-5 years. You have Ohtani who you pay nothing for and can provide hitting and batting.
Pujols is a pain, but I've been able to clean house and acquire a lot of assets. The only problem I have is that my team keeps winning and I continue to trade players that are performing well. |

I play as the Mets. Not as bleak as you would think. David wright retires after one year. So big contract off books. Just finished 2024 and mad as a wild card. Many of the old guys are gone at this point. Syndergard is still great, and Dunn who was a prospect when I started has been a good #3 starter. We have a new Japanese import as our #2. Conforto is still on team but after a prolonged injury he is a shell of his former self and is a 5th outfielder making too much. Had a couple of good years from Dominic smith who we did not resigns and cespedes remains strong til 39 (did not resign). Dumped DeGrom for a prospect (Kelenic) who has become the cornerstone of the team. The team is poised for a great season although we have the Nationals whom now have Harper, machado, and riZzo. So we shall see.

The Marlins are pretty bad to start with too, and that's what I did first. They start with no MLB team, a gutted farm system, a small market, demanding owner and small budget.
I've managed to take them to contending for their division in my second year, but I did this via lots of trades, which was probably unrealistic. |

Royals for sure. Try it in Challenge Mode and you’ll be, well, challenged.

I was thinking about doing the same with the 1969 Kansas City Royals or Montreal Expos, expansion teams in small markets. To be able to build a dynasty without a great starting point or loads of money seems kind of cool.

Have you done this before? Does it automatically set up the expansion for you? And second, kind of off topic question but do you know (or anyone) if I were to do the Seattle Pilots, do they automatically move to Milwaukee after or is that a manual thing you have to do? |

Take the Tigers
You...did...say you wanted a challenge.
No flames—I'm a lifelong Tiger fan...but facts are facts.

Most of the teams already mentioned make good candidates but I would really recommend the Orioles. The Orioles are saddled with some bad contracts (Chris Davis, Trumbo), more often then not lose their best player after year one (Machado), and the farm system is nothing to write home about. And have fun playing in the AL East. They had the worst record in all of baseball in my Red Sox game in 2018. I think they won 54 games.

Well since I got the game I took the 2018 Orioles out for a 5 year spin. Summary - not making a ton of trades, Machado left for $$$, Schoop left for $$$, both infielders were replaced by 2 star kids who had 2B/SS/3B defensive ratings in the 70's or above. One (2B) actually got an All-Star/Gold Glove in second full season, then wanted $7M yr. (arbitration est. $3.5M) The other kid hit .220 playing 3B but had 2 errors in 148 games played... Kept him - shopped 2B around - got a youngster 2B who was all offense no defense along with a 19 yr old CF prospect who has a 92 speed and 90 stealing... NEVER made playoffs in five years but never less than 75 wins either... Boston, NYY, just too hard to catch! Fired after 5th year for not raising $20M in available funds!
