Can The Home Team Be Changed In Single-Game Playoff?

I would like to change the homefield advantage on a single-game playoff game.

Will the game allow this without fouling up the playoffs?

I am still using OOTP12 for one of my long-running leagues... have never been able to convert to future editions... so still have to use it.

I will back up the league should I change it.

OOTP 12 - wow, that's like forever ago

I honestly can't remember if you can edit the play-offs in 12 like you can now. Is the option there in setup like it is in 19? You can edit that in 19 without any problems.

I may have answer but got to go out. Stay tuned.

Edit

Sorry, OOTP12 is so old, it didn't have the "Flip" button.

I have another problem now... the AI only scheduled one playoff game... I have ties in two divisions... one division playoff game was not scheduled.

I hope it will let me schedule a playoff game for the other two teams.

Thanks for the help anyway... appreciate the quick response.

Wish me luck... I hope it doesn't screw up my dynasty league.

The schedule editor allowed me to schedule another "regular season" game... I'll play it and see if the game recognizes it.

While things may work out just fine for you (hope so!), just a reminder to you and anyone else who might be interested...

1. Do not advance to the next day (play/sim the games, but do not finish the final regular season day). This will keep any tiebreaker games from being scheduled.
2. Go to the schedule editor and manually add any tiebreaker playoff games that you'd like to see. As in real-life, tiebreaker playoff games are regular season games, so in OOTP you are merely extending the regular season with any playoff games you might add.
3. Advance to the next day and play/sim your playoff game(s), etc...

If, say, you want a two-team tie to be decided by a best-of-three-game playoff (as was the case in both major leagues at times) instead of a one-game playoff, the above will work if you schedule the 3-game playoff series in step 2 above. However, if one team sweeps the first two games - thus ending the series - before advancing to the day upon which the third game is scheduled, go back to the schedule editor and delete the unnecessary third game. (The same thing would apply if you have a multi-team tie and want some sort of whacky round-robin... you can schedule your games one day at a time, after games are played but before advancing to the next day.)

Note: I know this works on previous versions of OOTP. However, I have not tried this with OOTP 18... (or 19).

Finally, always back up before monkeyness such as this

An addendum to thehef's procedures: if you have manually added any games to the schedule as a tie-breaking playoff, when you eventually get to the next season, those added games will still be on the schedule (though the teams involved in them will have changed due to the way OOTP rearranges the opponents in a schedule for each season). So take a moment to find the added games and manually remove them. That way all your clubs will be back to playing the original schedule.

Good point. I believe this ^^^ is true only if you are using not using real-life schedules. I almost always use real ones, and so it isn't an issue for me.

Everything worked out well... I added the missing playoff game and played it along with the other one and the game processed it correctly.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Special thanks to the hef and LGO.

LGO is very gifted... not only does he have marvelous knowledge of schedules, minor league baseball and the financial business of MLB, he makes very good logos, too.

He probably doesn't remember it, but when I first started my Islandian Pro Alliance dynasty report 10-12 years ago, he created an impressive team logo for the Ozarka Naturals, which I used for the first 50 seasons.

I remember that logo. And a few others I did.

Someday, I have to get back into that. But too many other things are keeping my time occupied...
