Hi new to game, Im playing just as GM. I have some players sending email about not enough playing time. How am i supposed to deal with that? can I interact with players or the manager through messages?

either give them more playing time or trade them. there is no interaction (outside of contract negotiations.)

I would argue that a third option is just to ignore them. Yes, this option will result in them staying unhappy/angry/whatever and will/can affect their performance. Then again, if your team is more likely to win with them being used the way they currently are, winning does have a way of making unhappy players a bit happier. I have employed this strategy (or non-strategy) in the past and it has at times worked out just fine. At least for a short period until it makes more sense to trade them or play them more doing nothing is an option that could also be worth a shot.

A fourth option I would posit would be to install yourself as Mgr and GM via commissioner mode and deal with the micro-aggresive tantrums the players are emailing you about as disunity in the clubhouse can become a nagging problem as a season progresses.

I have to admit I was reading quickly the first time and somehow missed the part about you being GM only.
Still, my experience has been that when I first started learning the game I always felt the need to respond to the slightest little issue with my team. And often probably over-reacted. I even found myself obsessively looking at every player's feelings about their role on the team, even if the overall mood was good. And fretting about how to make them happier. Eventually, I let go of that. I agree with gmjay74 though that a sour clubhouse can really hold a club back. So I guess for a GM I would say to make sure that you have a clubhouse with leaders (and if possible, a captain) and no malcontents. That should help balance out any temporary hurt feelings and frustrations. I would simply suggest that sometimes, not often maybe and certainly not always, doing nothing is the best option. If your overall approach is good and you have built a solid team with no serious personality issues, these things can have a way of sorting themselves out. |
