Playing game advice

whats the rationale behind deciding to use the quick-play at-bat decision vs. pressing pitch? Same question about swing? Is there is a difference in outcome?

I'm curious because i've been playing through a season essentially pressing #1 each time, and I'm having what seems like a statistically down year for all the players. And, its been getting worse through the year. So, it seems like the AI is learning that I just press #1 and using that against me. But, it might be confirmation bias. I would love to know.
