Creating Players and Potential

If I create a minor league player in the player editor, do the "potential" ratings for that player evolve from one season to the next? Not talking about the potential ratings that scouting reports, but rather the actual potential of the player. If so, is that a random development?

they *can* change over time... depends on settings a bit. namely, TCR (talent change randomness) in game/global settings page. yes, it's random if it changes. (a note below of how it skews under context, though)

relative to what you are mostly asking... no. they don't evolve or improve or have any predictable trend at the least.

potential will be the ceiling they can reach... IF they develope, which isn't guarneteed, either. also assumes a TCR event doesn't alter them, of course.

under tcr, the higher or lower the rating is, the more likely a tcr-related change moves the needle in the opposite direction.. but that doesn't preclude the possiblity of a high potential for a rating going even higher. (or a lowly potential going even lower)

i'm not a fan of tcr, but i still leave it on. it's part of how the game is built/tested to work... i do lower it a bit, though. "potential" should never change... it's irrational to think your coordination or potential muscle mass can change by magic.

It's irrational to think that your coordination or potential muscle mass can change dramatically, but at the elite level, mentality is significant. There are plenty of players with significant skill levels who suddenly can't perform (Rick Ankiel is an example). I see TCR to some extent as some level of a player either achieving a new mental state or simply losing his edge.
