Manager Mode only

I am new to the game. So i figured my first go around would be manager only. Now I am not sure if the game does this on purpose or just **** happens, but why in the hell would the game trade your best players away?? Is it to make it more difficult or what ? You don't trade Arron Judge for some smuck you never heard of before.

haha ... mildly entertaining, eh? jk

do gm/coach or gm with legacy mode on.. i think you'll be less frustrated.

legacy mode retains control over lineup and depth chart even if you ahve a high rep or controlling manager.

even if gm only, you can alwys play out and control games.. double check game settings before starting the game - make sure you are set to control things and not hte coach..it'll be a drop down box somewhere on the screen before the game starts and you see the proposed lineups and such.

if you let them control that stuff, you just have to live with it... maybe that is what you want or not,... upto you.

I'm also curious but on a more serious note I guess. What would be the purpose of going into "manager" mode and what can I do that's exciting?

I'm not new to OOTP but new to OOTP19 and with each update It's a little overwhelming at first so I wanna explore the options before potentially playing as a GM.

What would be + and - of being a manager only?

The reason to be a manager only is to avoid the complexities and decisions associated with being a GM. That's the main upside although I suppose you could also say that you get to experience what it is like to be a manager. The downside is that you have zero input into personnel decisions. One interesting approach is to play a historical league with real transactions enabled. If you research your team ahead of time, you know what is coming and won't end up with a GM trading away all of your catchers or put in some other precarious spot. This mode disables injuries, so you will not have that challenge/handicap. You may or may not like that.

You could play in GM/manager mode and assigning other tasks to the assistant GM while maintaining control of trades.

with manger only you don't get that option.. with gm or gm/coach you can choose what to pay attentio to and delegate the rest..

coach only, you have to live with the AI decisions... i couldn't handle that nonsense, lol. in RL, sure, but in a game it's different.

The AI sees that your team has two right fielders, Judge and Stanton. So it considers one expendable and so not that valuable. You can change one's position to DH or LF or even 1B and it should not trade that player but might trade someone else. Imagine you are Don Mattingly this year. Happens. We can say it is unrealistic that the AI would trade Giancarlo Stanton for Starlin Castro or Babe Ruth for 100,000 bucks or Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater but it happens.

The Indians in the 1970s might have had Chamblisz at 1B and Nettles on Third. The Yankees won four pennants with thwm

The Astros might have kept Joe Morgan and Cesar Geronimo. The Reds won two xhampionships.

The Rangers traded Sammy Sosa and the Twins released David Ortiz.q
