Questions on moving my league from another sim.

I've been spending a lot of time learning the way the game works. My first issue is related to populating minor league systems.

This will be an historical sim starting in 2017 with recalc every season. Currently teams have 40-Man Rosters, variable sized AAA rosters of other major league players in 2017, and minor league systems with as many as 70 minor leaguers and as few as 0. (I plan on doing mass updates using the game's export/import system to get signed players onto therosters.)

One question I haven't seen answered is, can I input all my league's current rosters into the game and then turn on the AI to finish off minor league systems?

Also, are there any settings I can click to make sure a team with little or no farm system doesn't get its system filled with better players than teams with players already in their systems?

Lastly, for now, has anyone compiled tips for new commissioners converting from another game? I've done a bunch of Google searches but haven't found anything comprehensive that answers all my questions.

Thanks in advance!

well, i don't thnk you can re-calc after "2017" unless you are using older players and a different "historic year" than game year. (ie you can run a "2018" game year league with 1951 as teh historical year... i do not know if that affects recalcing of historic players... if they weren't from 1951, there's nothign to recalc against etc...so, you'll need to test or find someone who has tried that for the full answer.)

not sure if it would be relative to years in league (1st, 2nd third, regardless of year or historic year etc) or relative to the historic year etc etc.. either is feasible.

the ai will setup the orgnaization after you assign players simpy by advancing a day. you can also "ask ai to setup complete" organization for any particular team in teh Rosters and Transactions screen.

check League Settings and "available actions" for any league-wide function that would do the same thing. probabably "set all orgs to be controlled by ai", then revert yours back to your control, if not something more specific to your exact question)

if some systems will have 0 players, you'll need to enable "ghost" players or you won't be able to advance a day anytime there is an illegal # of players on that MiL team and can't field a team to play a game.

importing/exporting players: one note... you cannot create players through an import of a csv file. they must exist in the game first... (ie import historical players command is different than what i am speaking of)..

so you can't export player list, then add players with new playerIDs by hand outside the game, then import... they must exist in the game before exporting, then you can reorganize to your heart's content.

if there is no draft and you have disabled fictionally created FA, they cannot fill their teams with different players than what you have assigned...

so, as long as there are no FA, the AI cannot change what you have done. if there are FA, then the AI will definitely sign them up, if they can afford them.

"Also, are there any settings I can click to make sure a team with little or no farm system doesn't get its system filled with better players than teams with players already in their systems?" (same with your 2nd paragraph, it's just not clear what you mean by the semantics)

not 100% sure what you mean here, either. do you just mean promotions from lower levels? can't stop how the ai places players, unless you control the team. if it's just about signing them, refer back to previous paragraphs.

ghost players are vrey inferior and will never take a starting spot from a real player (allow ghost players note from above for teams with too few of players)

Sorry about not being clear. I have a fictional league and imported 2017 historical major and minor league players. The plan is to convert a league which currently uses another sim to OOTP. We're playing the 2017 season right now. Next year we'd move to 2018.

First, what happens when I move a 2017 forward at the end of next year? Does the game only use 2018 season data? Is the recalc only done on historical leagues with past year, current year, and future year available?

Second, I've imported 2017 and made all the players free agents. I believe I can export those players (after the next OOTP update) change their teams info in the exported file and then import the file back and all the players will be the teams I want them to be on. I also believe this includes minor leaguers. True?

At that point I hope I can have the AI finish importing other players to teams' farm systems. Is that possible?

On another topic...in the recently released 2018 Opening Day file I saw real 2018 amateur players when I progressed the default 2018 season. How do I get those players into my fictional league so they would be available in my fictional 2017 season replay.

by converting i assume you mean import an ootp18 league to ootp19? see below about importing player lists/stats limitations.

following real life:
normally it depends on settings... you can make it follow real life transactions and choices on recalc can make them likely* to perform in similar ways. if that history hasn't occured yet, it can't do anything etc. so, that depends on your setting choices and the last year of history included in that version of the game.

obviously, ootp19 won't have transactions from the 2018 season beyond who is on the 40-man for opening day (give or take a fringe player), since it hasn't occured, yet.

can't recalc after 2017 since it hasn't happened yet.. that's all based on historical stats. nothing to base it on, nothing to re-calc.

export/import (player lists, not entire leagues)-- can't "create" new players. also, you can't export just the player list from any league and import to a new league. technically, if you re-used existing player IDs, you can rig this to work - gets complicated and better options to accomplish same thing... the league import function between versios is your best/easiest route. you can see the option teh moment you load ootp.

you can edit exported player lists and import back to the exact same league to your heart's content, as long as you don't add new players.. you can move them around, change anythign except their player ID and must use existing team ID's, if oyu do move them to another team.. .or FA list. ie you can't create a new team, for same reasons you cannot create a new player in an exported file.

ootpXX with a real leauge of player includes amateurs for 2-3+ years worth of drafts. there are thousands included with each release. they may be slightly different ratings from one version to the next, or even already drafted in some cases.

i have at least 2 posts with instructions how to re-use existing player id's and the general hoops you'll have to jump through to import a player list from a different league.. .use google to find it... not re-typing it, lol.

maybe you can edit MAster.csv or the like and add these things for the "next" year manually. you'd probably need an ootp19 in order to export files that you could rip information from easily... which, again, would be easier to just import to ootp19 at that point... less effort to accomplish same thing. (when you "import historical players" in game, it points you to these available files, one of which is master.csv. you can use that to find location "../data/stats/" is the folder).

i don't do that stuff, but if you know anything of how dB's work you can edit them and add stuff, i assume. find other threads with similar intentions. i know people edit these thigns for all sorts of reasons.

this other post might be relevant to your situation too: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...95&postcount=9
