If I lock a player into the minor league, for instance the Cardinals' Jack Flaherty who my manager keeps using as the DH, can I later unlock him to move him to the majors.
My plan, was to give Wainwright or Mikolos until June 1 to prove they are still MLB caliber pitchers.
If not, Flaherty was probably going to get the call up. He's also my first option if one of my starters get injured.
So, I do not want to put lock on him and then not be able to move him when needed.

It's in the player strategy.

Yeah, locking a player to the minor league team just means that if the AI controls promotions and demotions, they won't move him around - it's up to you to set him to the right level. You can still move guys anytime.

What about the scouting report? My player still isn't showing progression in the position he's playing, only what the game thinks he should be?

EDIT: Appreciate the help. Why can't I have both though? Why does player lock have to be on in order for the AI not to override my two-way settings? I'm confused.

I assumed you could totally disable this feature from your game using the league settings/stats & AI page....is this not the case?

Mainly, it's the challenge of setting the options properly. We wanted a way for you to let the AI control the setting, or for you to override it yourself, so it was simplest to use the same setting. Essentially, the lock to team setting basically says, "I care more about this player, so let me control everything about him".

As for the scouting report, we'll keep looking into that and try to get the scout to "pick" the position they're playing more often, but it's more intended to prevent the scouting report from reading oddly if the player just happens to be set at a weird position when the report gets generated. So I'd rather not read a scouting report about Kershaw the reliever if I just happen to have him in the pen on April 1st when a report gets generated, for example.

Yes, if you disable the option in the league settings, then none of this matters and the checkbox will be ignored.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I definitely understand how tough it is to juggle all the settings. I just want my player to be able to grow at the position I tell him to. Otherwise, it doesn't feel like there's a real use/practicality for two-way players.

Update: Started the new year, first reports. My SS is still being viewed as a SP and is gaining stats there. So I don't know what to do. I don't see the point of having players be capable and rated as two-way when the game will only view them in one light, forcing you to play them that position.

EDIT: Adding a screenshot, just to offer the visual. You can see he is a SS but continually viewed as a SP.

I know this will not be OK with others because they want to use this feature because Shohei Ohtani rocks, but I just uncheck it league-wide, and avoid the headaches. Seems to be working so far. Game > Game Settings > League Settings > Stats & AI > General AI Roster Settings > Uncheck Allow two-way players box.

Yeah it's a good enough solution to that problem.

The bigger issue, to me, is still how my players are being scouted. Where my SS is progressing as a SP even though I don't have him assigned there. I haven't gotten an answer on how to fix that, if there even is a fix (and if there isn't, I think it's a pretty sizeable issue).

Yeah, I had about three of those in thousand plus players in my league. Two of them were RL two-way players: Adam Loewen and Brooks Kieschnick. It's not too prevalent right now, but if it gets worse, I'll holler about it too.

Really, just three? It feels like it's happening to a lot of my guys. There's at least a second I can think of from the same draft class.

Yea...to me Ohtani is so rare in modern baseball that I don’t feel this option is worth it

Had another player update today and my guys are still scouted in the wrong positions. Is it fair to assume they will never grow at the position I've assigned them to?

No, the scout simply picks a position to report on. We'll change it up for the next patch to be more about what they're actually playing, but right now they just choose the position the scout thinks they'd be most valuable at.

I'm having a lot of these same issues. I just finished my amateur draft, and actually did deliberately draft a number of potential "two-way" guys. But the game is trying to turn it on for all sorts of players for whom it is not appropriate.

I've got a pitcher here, his highest hitting stat is 30 and is highest hitting potential is 40. His defensive ratings are terrible and he has no position rating for anything other than pitcher. Why is the game trying to make him a two-way player?

I am not really sure what to do here. I have quite a few of these young guys and I don't want to have to micromanage my farm system.

Do I need to use the "lock to team" option as mentioned above? This of course means I also have to manually promote everyone, because I have no easy way of keeping track who is locked and who isn't.

My hope in drafting some pitchers with hitting potential and vice-versa was that over time, they might develop in unexpected ways and I might be able to switch their roles. Does this ever actually happen though?

I posted a previous reply but I think it's stuck in a moderation queue.. let's see how this goes.

I noticed an issue with trying to convert players from pitchers to batters or otherwise. Even if I change the position and ask for a new scouting report, it reports on the old position. The obvious problem with this is that I can't see what the scout thinks of the player in the new position. The less obvious problem is that minor league managers seem to decide who gets playing time based at least in part on their potential. So I have guys not getting ABs or IPs based on invalid ratings.

Anything I can do to fix this?

Really enjoying playing with my potential two-way players even if it's a bit tricky right now. I love finding overlooked gems as I try to rebuild Miami from the ashes...

Thanks. Love this game.
