Historical Question
So, I've always used automatically import historical rookies but never the random debut option.
Should both of these be checked to use random debut, or no? Thanks.

random debut will bring in players of different era into each draft. you may get Ruth, Bonds, Walter Johnson and Cap Anson in one draft. and you may get Jose Pagan, Tony Lazzeri and Jim Gilliam in the next. i don't play that way, so not certain how the different era stats mesh.
random debut OFF will just bring in players from whatever year your draft is in.

So what happens if I check them both? For example, would I get dual draft classes?
Also, If I don’t limit the year of debut to say 1990 or whatever, could I conceivably end up with a rookie version of a currently active player (ie if I don’t limit it, could I end up with a rookie Beltran, etc.)

If you check them both you will get a draft class of random year players and then the historical draft year players will end up in your in Free Agent pool. At least this is what happened to me, could not figure out why my pool was growing so fast, took me about 6 drafts to figure out what was happening and correct the problem. Settings in this game give us lots of options but they are very difficult to get the league the way I envision it in my mind. I learn something new pretty much daily and have fun but it can be very frustrating, I have had to blow up many leagues.

You want them both checked if you are doing a random debut. In fact, they are both checked by default when you use the historical wizard to create your league, so don't mess with them.
I don't know what happened in Jaburns league, but having them both checked will not result in you getting a random draft and the actual debuts of that year as free agents. You will only get random players. If I understand your question correctly, yes you can get the rookie version a current player. I never use a max in my league, so getting Altuve, or Bryant or Trout as a rookie is definitely possible. I do use a minimum as I don't like the way pre 1900 players perform. But, that's just me. Other use them with no complaints. |

What I don’t understand is that if we automatically bring in all historical rookies how is it Random Debut? You cannot have a player debut as a draftee if his actual rookie year is before the year the league is in, make sense?:

What I am saying, if understand properly, is that by having both boxes checked a player cannot debut after his historical rookie season.
Example: Starting in 1901, you have a rookie draft every year, by the time you reach 1920 all the rookies from 1901-1919 have already been in the draft pool. Therefore you cannot have a real life rookie from 1911 appear in the 1920 draft because he was already in the 1910 rookie draft pool. Am I making any sense? |
