Complete Noob ;(

I've been to baseball games, played little league in the past and always enjoyed baseball. Thought I would give OOPT 18 a try, but am completely overwhelmed with everything I am seeing including stats as well Was wondering what the best way to learn about playing this game??

This is my first sports management game and def don't see the game being noob friendly lol doesn't mean I'm going to give up..just need a lot of guidance lol

Hi & welcome

I would suggest the following:

Give the manual a good going over:Manual
Lurk in the OOTP 19 subforums (that's where most of the game discussion is now taking place)
Read some Dynasty Reports to get a feel for what you can do with the game
Create a basic MLB league using the wizard & experiment with stuff
Google stats you're not familiar with to get an understanding of what they're about
And, most importantly imo, take it slow.

When I first started playing OOTP I was also completely overwhelmed. Doing the above helped me get my bearings & now this is pretty much the only game I play

My suggestion is to start small and add more content as you feel comfortable. Create a small fictional league without financials, minor leagues and contract restrictions. Just use the default logos and uniforms. Use a reserve roster to deal with injuries. And listen to Izz, he gave good advice. Prepare yourself to loose sleep, friends and family.

Another suggestion is to allow the computer to handle different things until you get the hang of it. Example: I never handle the minor league lineups and signings. I even let my assistant GM handle the ticket prices, etc. I like handling the players, signings, lineups (sometimes) and personnel. If I'm the manager, all I want to do is the manager stuff.

I agree with the suggestion to start small - that means that I would suggest turning off many of these options: Scouting, Financials, player personality/team morale, owner goals. Depending on what kind of league you are starting with, you may want to disable minor leagues also, and use a reserve roster.

It may be ok to keep owner goals/and or financials if you really want those options to get a feel.

I would also strongly suggest playing as commissioner when you first start. This can help you make some changes/trades if you accidentally screw some things up.

Then just start playing to find your way around. It is a little frustrating as a newbie. If something isn't working as you expect, post it on these boards and someone can probably tell you what option to change. But, definitely start playing a game/get a feel of how it works, and then starting trying some other options.

Your first game/attempt probably isn't going to be set up perfectly/with your favorite options after you've played for a while (I am still trying things).

I got this because I love historical options. But, the best way to learn might be to just go small with like an 8 team fictional league - maybe keep the options above on, and get a feel for it. Play a quick season or 2, and then start tweaking the options.

For me, when I started with OOTP 16, I replayed the 2015 season as my favorite team (Dodgers). I played as commissioner so that I was manager and GM also. I set control to myself for all ML decisions, and left all the minor league decisions to the computer. I played and managed each game, and that gave me a very good feeling for the details in the game.
