2018 Rockies
Welcome aboard the 2018 Colorado Rockies Dynasty Report.
I will provide updates as I go throughout the season. I prefer to play each game, but won't bore you with 162 daily updates. I'll update with some regularity of each series or 5 -10 days or so. Our team goals this year from the owner are to reach the playoffs and to upgrade LF. With a tough NL West and Rockies with some questionable SPs in the back of the rotation, I definitely will be looking to upgrade the rotation and bullpen, too. With less than $300,000 provided from the budget for free agents, no real options to acquire an arm from the offseason Free Agents list. Would love to find a trade partner to rid myself of Ian Desmond's insane contract since David Dahl in LF is a good alternative. I tried to shop Desmond at the beginning of the offseason, but only offers were Hanley Ramirez, Shin-Soo Choo and Kendrys Morales - all with similarly large contracts, bad defense, and poor attitude/leadership, so I passed. Also, full disclosure: I hate having bad personnel for bench coach, pitching coach, etc. So, I fired all the current folks and hired all new ones that are considered Good-Great. Challenge Mode is On, no other tweaks to any Settings. Let's get ready to rumble, Rockies! Last edited by azdevil2004; 04-08-2018 at 04:19 PM. |

Opening Day Win
Opening Day: Rockies 5 - Dbacks 1
Notes: -D'backs held to only 1 hit. Was the humidor to blame? D'backs had 3 to 4 warning track fly balls only to fall in to the gloves of the outfielders. -6.2 innings and 8 Ks from Rockies' Jon Gray, but his pitch count ran up to 103, so the bullpen came in to finish the game, striking out 4 of the remaining 7 outs. -AZ's Greinke was knocked out of the game after only 3 innings of work, 67 pitches, 3 ER. This resulted in the D'backs needing to tax the bullpen for 6 more innings. Will the tired AZ bullpen arms impact the remainder of the series? Last edited by azdevil2004; 04-08-2018 at 04:19 PM. |

1st Series Win
The Rockies take 2 out of the 3 games from the D'backs to win their first series of the young season.
Game 2: D'backs 4 - Rockies 3 -AZ's SP Ray gave up 5 hits and 2 BBs during his 5.2 IP, but every time Rockies threatened, he was able to get out of it by getting Rockies to roll in to double plays. Rockies with 7 LOB for the game. -Game was tied at 3 after the top half of the 7th, but Steven Souza Jr. blasted a solo shot with 2 outs in the 7th to take the lead 4-3. -AZ's bullpen of Hirano (W 1), Boxberger, and Bradley (SV 1) would not allow any hits the remainder of the game as D'backs won their 1st of the year. Game 3: Rockies 8 - D'backs 1 -Strong outing from Rockies' SP Jeff Hoffman. 6 IP, 7 K, 1 ER. Bullpen and Hoffman combine to only give up 5 hits. -AZ's Godley: 3 IP, 6 ER after a 6-run 2nd inning, due to 3-run HR from Patterson and 2-run HR from LeMahieu. -2 triples for the Rockies in the game: Arenado and CarGo. Day off tomorrow as Colorado travels to San Diego for a 4-game series with the Padres. Last edited by azdevil2004; 04-08-2018 at 04:12 PM. |

4 Game Padres Series
Looking at the roster for San Diego is a challenge to recognize many of the young players that accompany Hosmer, Galvis, and Margot.
But are the Padres trying to mirror the path that the Rockies were a few years ago developing their talent with LeMahieu, Arenado, Blackmon and Story as the Rockies now have expectations of being in the playoffs? Loyal Padres fans sure hope so. Game 1: Rockies 5 - Padres 2 -Rockies SP Bettis (W 1): 6 IP, 4 H, 2 K. Closer Wade Davis picks up his 1st save in the 9th. -Rockies had hits from all position players other than C Ianetta and SS Story. CarGo remains hot with going 2 for 4 with a HR, raising his avg to .417. LF Dahl added a 3-run HR to break the 2-2 tie in the 5th. Game 2: Rockies 3 - Padres 2 -Both SPs would've enjoyed help from their batters instead of having to supply their own offense. The game was tied after 7 at 1-1 with both RBI coming from Rockies' SP Senzatela and Padres' SP Richard. -In the 8th, Arenado broke the stalemate with a 2-run HR, his first of the year, to take a 3-1 lead. -Davis (SV 2) gave up a solo HR to SD's Renfroe in the 9th to create some suspense, but that would be the end of the comeback for the Padres. Game 3: Padres 5 - Rockies 2 -SD's SP Erlin would leave with an injury after only 1.1 IP, and with Colorado's ace Gray (1-1) on the mound, it seemed to be an optimal opportunity to continue the winning streak, but the Padres bullpen would hold Colorado to only 2 runs. -SD's Margot with a 2-run HR to tie the game in the 3rd. Wil Myers and Chase Headley added RBI in the 6th and 7th to pull away. -Ianetta the lone bright spot of offense for Rockies with 2-run HR in the 2nd. Game 4: Padres 12 - Rockies 0 -The Rockies appeared like their minds were on returning home to Colorado during this final game of the series. -SD's Hosmer hit 2 mammoth, 3-run HRs for 6 RBI, while SP Bryan Mitchell (W 1-0) went 7 innings with 6 Ks -Rockies only had 4 hits in the game, and only 1 extra-base hit. -It was not SP Freeland's best game (L 0-1), but he did chew up 6 innings to limit the use of the bullpen. Series Summary: The Rockies are now 4-3 as they prepare for their season home opener tomorrow as the NL East leading Braves (5-1) come to visit. Last edited by azdevil2004; 04-08-2018 at 04:12 PM. |

2018 Home Opener!
The Rockies are happy to be back home after they started the first 7 games of 2018 on the road, coming back 4-3 and 2nd in the NL West.
They face the red-hot Braves who have started their season 5-1. Game 1: Rockies 4 - Braves 3 -Rockies SP Jeff Hoffman (1-0) had a 2nd solid outing with 5.2 IP and 7 Ks. Although he did not earn a win, he kept the Braves hot bats relatively cool. -SS Trevor Story had only 2 hits going into the game, but he would collect 3 hits and 2 RBI to lead the offense. -RP Brian Shaw (W 2-0) and Davis (SV 3) were able to secure the victory after taking a 4-3 lead in the 8th. Game 2: Rockies 10 - Braves 9 -Charlie Blackmon, entering the game batting .148, chose the right spot for his first HR of the year. Blackmon hit a walk-off HR in the 9th against Atlanta's closer, Arodys Vizcaino. Blackmon scored 3 runs on the night. -Atlanta's star of the game was highly touted prospect Ronald Acuna who went 3 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI, including the game-tying hit in the top of the 9th against closer Wade Davis (W 1-0, BS 1). -Both SPs lasted less than 4 IP, Bettis for Colorado and Teheran for Atlanta. Game 3: Braves 8 - Rockies 7 -The Rockies were leading 5-4 in the 8th, when they ran into trouble. Dansby Swanson, another young talent on the Braves, blasted a 3-run HR to take an 8-5 lead. -Atlanta's Acuna continues to rake, going 3 for 5 with 2 runs. -Colorado made it interesting adding a run in the 8th and 9th to bring the game to 8-7, but Ianetta would fly out with 2 outs and a runner on 1st in the 9th to end the game. -LF David Dahl hit a homer in his 2nd straight game to now lead the team with 3 HRs and 8 RBI on the year. Summary: Rockies now after first 10 games of the season are 6-4, welcome in the team they just saw in San Diego, the Padres. Last edited by azdevil2004; 04-08-2018 at 10:16 PM. |
