Team Option
In my Mets save I picked up Hamlet Ramirez as a fill in with Jackie Bradley for Cespedes, while Bradley has far exceeded expectations Hanley is unhappy to where it's killing my chemistry.....im considering just cutting him. He has a team option for next season, am I responsible for it if I cut him?

Why are you just cutting him from the roster during the season?
If you are going to dump him, attempt to trade him first using Shop Player. If you do the leg work, some team will take him. If a team gives you a one-to-one trade, start adding prospects to their side and remove the initial player. You may only get a few worthless prospects, but that is still better than nothing and will save you the contract buyout dollars. You may even need to give up a mid-level prospect to increase his value. Of course, when using shop player, you may be offered the other teams cancer player or high-dollar little return aged player. Don't discount the high dollar players. If the player you get cost less than yours, your still safe money. Shop the new player and you may get lucky with a good deal or get another less costly player. Try to find a team with weakness at his position using the position strength reports and start from there. Ask for a prospect a little lower than how the OSA rates him and you should find a taker. Look for a younger prospect with a few years left before RULE5 would apply to him. That way you get a filler ML player and save money. If you can't find someone to take him right away and he has an ML option left, send him down to the ML and look again in a few weeks. Monitor the injury reports daily in case a team has a player injured that he can replace. Start the trade talks with that team. Always try to save money anyway you can. It makes your owner happy and gives you more freedom to spend on the players you do want. I have spent 10 real hours (one game day) trying to get rid of high priced team cancer. For me that is the fun part of the game. Working to get the best deal that will improve my team. The bigger your league, the more options you have to look at, but I've found that most players can be traded instead of just being CUT. Malor |

Nobody wants him, that's why. Trust me I've tried, but 34 year olds hitting .147/1/7 aren't too hot these days

If you cut him, you would be responsible for the remainder of his 2018 salary, plus whatever the buyout is for the option, assuming there is one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't think there is a buyout. Thought I read that Markus and Co cannot put a buyout into any current contracts due to something in the computer program on their side. |

I stand corrected. Not in front of the game at the moment. Just knew Markus had mentioned that they weren't able to get every buyout into the game properly.

Did you try to move him to the minors via waviers?
If he rejects the move and you don't want to work for a trade, than Cutting him is the only option. If he goes down, he won't take a position on the 40 man. You'll still be paying, but maybe you can still move him. I've never not been able to trade a player. It does take a lot of time to find a deal that will work and it probably will not be one-for-one. You will probably need to give up a prospect and maybe retain some of the contract. But at least you want be retaining it all. You also will not be responsible for the buyout dollars. |
