Who You Choose For MVP?

Would like to see who you all think should have won the 2005 MVP award in my fictional league. Of course I voted for my very own Kadar Cavanaugh. I was hoping he would bring the award to make up for my Atlanta Vipers losing in a playoff play-in game for the 2nd straight season. I'd like to think that Leftwich walked away with award due him leading Florida to their first playoff appearance in franchise history.

EDIT: Have to love when you omit a word in the thread title.

For me it is Leftwich. He had 40 doubles, an insane amount of walks, and a great obp.

Leftwich: Got on base more while striking out far fewer, was a better base runner (fewer outs made stealing, more extra bases, same number of runs), and a similar amount of WAR.

I voted for Cavanaugh because his stats are nearly as good (or better in some cases) across the board and he's a CF--and, judging from his WAR, a pretty good one at that.

that's a toughy... flip a coin.

(roughly) same # of xbh, but one has a higher hr.. which is better than 40 doubles and why he has a higher slugging too.. big picture, he drove in runs better this year... should have had more rbi, but maybe had fewer chances to score palyers than leftwhich? or leftwhich had some xtra luck or anything in between.

both these guys would be better if they took a few less walks, since they are such great rakers (if batting 1/2 then the walks are fine). but, a single is > bb. i'm assuming both are 3rd or 4th in lineup, so they serve the same roles? slugging is more important in those spots than taking a walk.

i'd go with the hr heavy xbh... but i bet the other guy is more consistent in his career.

i'd rather have leftwhich on my team, but i think in this 1 year, the other guy is better. leftwich's avoid k's is going to keep him very consistent, i'd bet the house. plus, 27hr migh be a 'down' year.. can't know without seeing ratings. he's got a better contact and ~similar power... and younger.. total package.

i usually prefer ops+ over war too... rare when i go the opposite way on an mvp choice. he probably did more for his team this year...

oh and CF.. yeah, that cemented it for me... is he decent in CF or a hack? even if a defensive hack, still sticking with him.

Leaning towards Jason due to walks but if he wasn't on a playoff team while the other guy was, then I pick the other guy.

EDIT: Jason it is then.

For MVP Awards, I prefer to look at WPA instead of WAR, but do we really want to start that debate again? ;-)

I seriously couldn't vote until I see the standings. I would need to see where both teams were in their divisions.

How is this even a question? It's Cavanaugh and it's naugh(t) even close. I'd seriously question anybody who picked the LF here.

Here are the final standings for that season along with each player's defensive stats for the 2005 season. It was Florida's first playoff appearance in franchise history.
