2 top 5 picks in 1st round draft, how???

So in my league I’m in the 2019 season and at the draft. I noticed the White Sox have the 2rd and 5th picks in the first round. Never seen this before and wondering if this is a glitch or something. Anybody else have this happen in their drafts? I don’t have draft pick trading on so I’m really confused how it’s possible to have two high first round picks. If it’s a one time glitch then I can live with it but am worried it’s gonna happen every draft. Don’t think this is possible in real life mlb draft so wondering how this happened. The White Sox didn’t have two first round picks during the rule 5 draft so I’m just confused here.

draft pick trading on?

no, it shouldn't be posible, otherwise.

draft picks are protected in the top 3rd from compensation piks.. maybe related to that? you'd have to dig into recent history or transactions and see what allowed it to occur.

you can 'fix' the draft order.. export and edit it in a spreadsheet with ease. if tehy should have gotten a compensation pick, move it there etc.. or just take it away.. w/e

if you find a cause other than trading, post in bugs forum too.

In real MLB, if you don't sign one of your picks in the top 5 rounds, you are awarded with a pick one spot later in the following draft (I think that's the exact rule, if not it's close). So maybe the White Sox drafted someone at #4 the year before and didn't sign him? If so, that would give them the #5 pick the following year.

For a recent real-life example, look at the 2014 and 2015 drafts. In 2014, the Astros had the #1 overall pick and took Brady Aiken, who never signed. In 2015, the Astros got the #2 pick as compensation, and had their own regular pick at #5.

Oh man, thank you for this explanation. Completely forgot about this rule. I follow the Sox and was trying to rebuild them before I restarted and went with the marlins for a different kind of challenge. So the year before paid attention to who they picked which was a short stop. Combing through 2019 draft class and saw he was available again and he most likely didn’t sign. Also they had the 4th overall pick in 2018 and now had the 5th overall because of that reason and the 2nd overall for losing so many games. I’ve never failed to sign a first round pick so never had it happen and forgot about the real life rule. Appreciate this explanation.

What Fronzizzle says.

If you have advanced draft pick signing on and a team fails to sign a pick in the top 5 rounds they get a comp pick in the next year 1 pick later than the one not signed.

Yup, completely forgot about this rule and that’s why it happened. Appreciate the answers.
