How did one team win a division 20+ years I'm a row? That has to be a OOTP record

The Cavaliers were a powerhouse with a lot of money to spend. I was the GM for the Cavaliers from 2013 to 2027, and when I left they had a lot of young players and top pitchers. And their GM and Manager kept things going strong. I am not sure what happened over the past 2-years, but they have finally seemed to have lost their magic.

Their 2030 season is year that may never be topped. That year they had a starting staff of 3 20-game winners, and 2 19-game winners... and 10 players with over 1 HR's, 4 players with over 100 RBI's, and 4 with over 100 runs scored. Quite amazing season. Oliver Ramos hit .302-46-124, 121 run's, a .980 OPS and 5.2 WAR. Henry Rojas hit .335-25-102, with 111 runs's, a .936 OPS and a 7.1 WAR, and neither one won the MVP.

Crazy team history, and after all these seasons it looks like they are coming back to reality.

My Notes
My owner came to me with a budget email, which means I think he sees that I am pushing the envelope with the payroll this year. But if we win we should be able to bring more fans to the stadium and make more money and increase our budget. At least that is what I am hoping for. We are 20th out of 28 teams in payroll so I feel have to push the limit when it comes to payroll to compete. I just hope it wasn't a mistake that I signed a hitter and not a pitcher.

This is going to be a fun season and my sights are right back on first place and another playoff slot. I would love to win a title here in Chadds Ford, since we have been so close... I really thought 2038 was going to that year, so I am hoping that this year will be a big year for us. I had a good feeling about last season at the start too, but boy that changed after May. Hopefully, this good feeling is a good feelings.

Spring training is about to get started and I am excited to see what this team has to offer. Our outfield of Takahashi and Matsuo should be entertaining with a lot of power. Rookie Antonio Garza is going to get a shot to prove himself in CF. If he wins the job he may be the best CF we have had in Chadds Ford ever. The big question will be can he hit, and can he stay healthy. Last year in AAA he hit .305-3-63 with 40 steals in 120 games. If he could come close to that for us that would be amazing... speed in CF, power in the corner OF slots, perfect.

I really feel like I have a lot of talent here. I just hope it translates into some W's for us. Last year was such a bad and disappointing year and this year has to be better. A nice stacked roster with young players and vets, something my team has lacked as we have always focused on young players.

I am excited to get spring training started it is quite

Off-Season Profile:
2040 Budget: $83,000,000 (20th)
Payroll: $61,362,250 (20th)
Money for Free-Agents: $649,300
Money for Extensions: $0
Fan Interest: 78
WAR Gain/Loss: +1.9 (11th)
Owner: Delighted
2042 Long Term Goal: Reach the playoffs

Personal Message from Owner Matt McCullough:
Financial Update: Tony,

As we get closer to the start of the season, I have reviewed the team's financial state as of this moment.
As a reminder, you have $83,000,000 available for the total team expenses for the season.

You may review all your financials on your front office page.

Good Luck!
Matt McCullough

Free Agents/Signings:
Signed free agent RP José Ruíz to a 2-year contract worth a total of $3,400,000.
Signed free agent SS Felipe Suárez to a 4-year contract worth a total of $16,700,000.
Signed free agent RF Naganori Matsuo to a 3-year contract worth a total of $49,260,000.

Trades:
Traded 25-year-old catcher Fernando Cirin and $500,000 in cash to the Alexandria Growlers, getting a 2nd round draft pick in return.

I placed Gregorio on waivers to make room for Matsuo, then pulled off this deal to clear roster slot. Cirin didn't have much success when he was with us, but he could still have a decent career. The big thing I didn't like about him was his outspoken personality. He is a decent 3B and C, a very fast runner, and a questionable bat. In limited time with us over the past two seasons he hit .146-1-3 and .171-0-1... I do wish him luck as I do with everyone I deal him away... I have since removed Gregorio from the waiver wire.

Injuries:
MR Francisco Franco, torn UCL, 7-8 weeks.

Current Offense Depth Chart:
I have a feeling there maybe a lot of moves up and down between here and San Juan. I am going to try to get the best hitting and defensive team on the field at all times. We can't win with a Def Eff under .700!

There will be some crazy battles going on with this team this year. I just am not sure how it will turn out. Players like Pedro Diaz (.277-6-33, in 2039), Juan Guzman (.283-4-29) and Otto Carillo (.302-5-49) are on the outside looking in.

* denotes penciled in starter

I have a lot of pitchers with good quality and who can start so this rotation may be a real battle. I am quite interested to see how these guys turn out they have to better than 2039, right?

These 6 will start spring training in the rotation.
SP Juan Cuesta
SP Juan Santos

My Notes
The early pre-season predictions have us winning 89 games and winning the division. If we can win the division and make the playoffs then we are that much closer to winning it all. Our first goal? Make the playoffs. Winning it will be tough with the additions the big money spending teams made, but anything can happen in the post season.

Early season predictions to watch and compare to see what happens come the season predictions:
Naganori Matsuo: .305-33-99
Murray Wallstreet: .281-21-62, 15 SB
Tom Watson: 15-8 3.41

When the next predictions come after spring training it will be interesting to see where these guys fall... but one thing is for sure I need my starting pitching to step it up... I mean these same predictions last year had us winning 98 games, but when the final predictions came out we were down to 76. So yeah you can't take these too seriously.

I head into opening day with roster moves to make as I have 17 position players and 14 pitchers on my roster. I need to cut this down to 14/11, which I am not sure how I will make this work. Too bad the roster don't expand to 28 players, that would make it so much easier. This team is deep with talent, is it great talent or just "ok" talent I am not sure, I am hoping it somewhere in between talent.

We played well this spring, but I really don't know what that means. I think we played well last spring too, and look where that got us. I am not sure what to expect from this team, I do believe we are better than we were last year. Can we score more than 720 runs this year? I believe we can. Can we give up less than 807 runs this year? Yes, we better. All around we are a better team than 2039, not just because we are acquired players, but because we matured and we developed. We have veteran leadership (Johnson, Costello and Cantu) we have young guys who are still finding their way (Carillo, Ayala, and Maxwell), and we have players who have been here a few years and know what we expect (Pearl, Cuesta, Guzman and Todd). All around we have talent. Yes we did last year too, but we blew the team up heading into the season. This year not much happened, expect we brought in a few guys. Does that make us better? I don't really know, but I'd like to think so.

I have made some crazy deals over the years and some people may say I ruined this team, but I would argue that. I have protected this team. I have protected this teams budget, made the owners happy and done the best I have. I haven't been fired in 10 seasons. I haven't been not asked back... so I am doing something right. Yes we haven't won the big one yet, and yes we really haven't come close... but we have had the team to do it, we had that team here in Chadds Ford. Things just didn't work out for us, and if all things come together this year we will be making a charge again. We just need to make the playoffs and then anything is possible.

Time to contemplate the opening day roster... I am really not sure what to do. Details below.

I can't wait to get this season kicked off and to see what is going to happen.

Off-Season Profile:
2040 Budget: $83,000,000 (20th)
Payroll: $61,362,250 (20th)
Money for Free-Agents: $649,300
Money for Extensions: $0
Fan Interest: 78
WAR Gain/Loss: +1.9 (13th)
Owner: Delighted
2042 Long Term Goal: Reach the playoffs

Free Agents/Signings:
none

Trades:
none

Major Transactions:
none

Injuries:
MR Francisco Franco, torn UCL, 2 weeks.
SP Juan Cuesta, torn rotator cuff, 4-5 months
OF Juan Torres, partially torn labur, 6 weeks
OF Antonio Garza, oblique strain, 5 days
SS Otto Carillo, DtD, 4 weeks

Garza was going to be my opening day CF'er, but this injury means he will be heading to AAA. We will what happens in April.

Current Offense Depth Chart:

With 21 position players I had to let 7 go, well send them down to AAA or where ever. This isn't going to be an easy task, at least I don't think so so lets see how things go. I may end up putting off a move or two till opening day, but I am not sure... after looking over the roster I am at a standstill and will have to make 3 more moves over the next couple of days... not really sure what to do at this point. Not sure who these final 3 are going to be... do I really have too much talent or am I just being weird and its obvious who I should demote.

Catchers:
Jose Matos (.189-0-3, 7-37)
Pedro Cantu (.377-4-14, 23-61)

First Base:
Eugene Todd (.175-3-12, 7-40) (out of options)
Hector Solis (.395-1-6, 15-38)

Second Base:
Jose Ayala (.267-0-4, 12-45)
Juan Guzman (.222-0-2, 10-45) (out of options)

Third Base:
Tully Maxwell (.193-2-5, 11-57)
Otto Carillo (.436-4-9, 24-57)

Shortstop:
Murray Wallstreet (.362-3-10, 21-58)
Felipe Suarez (.351-1-5, 20-57)

Outfield:
LF Juan Rosales (.216-0-4, 8-37)
RF Naganori Matsuo (.203-2-7, 12-59)
LF Ogai Takahashi (.279-1-12, 17-61)
DH Ambrose Gutierrez (.333-0-3, 17-51, 4-11 SB)
RF Pedro Diaz (.241-4-14, 14-58)
LF Ramon Gonzalez (.180-0-3, 9-50)
LF Mike Johnson (.288-3-9, 17-59)

On the pitching side it "should" be an easier decision as I have 14 active and will need to get down to 11... how hard can it be demote 3 pitchers?? With the player who was supposed to be our ace Juan Cuesta out for a bit this may get a little interesting. A few guys who have pitched mainly in the pen are going to need to step up... I am at a loss at this point. I may end up demoting guys who deserve to stay here and see how these out of options players perform. I may end up DFA'ing Jose Ruiz but I am not sure if anyone will want him.

Starters:
SP Gehrig Pearl (5 G, 3-1 4.95)
SP Juan Monjardim (3 G, 2-0 3.38)
SP Tom Watson (6 G, 1-1 4.13)
SP Don Stewart (4 G, 1-1 6.75)
SP Geregorio Costello (4 G, 1-0 1.69)
SP Gallin Krall (4 G, 1-1 2.25)

Bullpen:
CL Alvin Richardson (14 G, 1-0 0.40, 9 SV, 22.2 IP, 31 K)
MR Jose Santos (8 G, 1-3 3.00, 21.0 IP, 26 K)
MR Bob Bradford (8 G, 2-1 6.60, 15.0 IP, 15 K)
MR Antonio Orozco (11 G, 0-1 3.20, 19.2 IP, 19 K)(out of options)
MR Theo Bomas (7 G, 0-1 2.87, 15.2 IP, 10 K)
MR Chris Adkins (20 G, 1-1 4.02, SV, 15.2 IP, 21 K) (out of options)
MR Dan MacNeilage (11 G, 3-0 4.86, 16.2 IP, 13 K)(out of options)
MR Jose Ruiz (10 G, 0-0 4.74, SV, 19.0 IP, 22 K)(refuses demotion)

Demonted:
C Kyle Glendinwyn (.280-2-6, 7-25, sent to AAA)
C Miguel Cortesini (.225-0-0, 9-40, sent to AAA)
2B Augusto Ramos (.175-0-2, 7-40, sent to AAA)

2040 Top Prospects/Systems

Top 100 Prospects List Published:
The season is about to start, so it's time to publish the annual Top 100 Prospects list. This year 22-year-old LF Rodney Wade of the Ocean City Tourists is the #1 prospect overall.

Here is the top 10:
1) LF Rodney Wade, 22, Ocean City Tourists
2) CF Kiyomasu Kono, 22, Harrington Ponies
3) CF Bob McClellan, 23, Newark Millers
4) LF Emílio Esquivel, 22, Ellicott City Express
5) C Andre Frazier, 23, Annapolis Admirals
6) 2B Carlos Alemán, 23, Lewes Braves
7) RHP Augusto Cardenas, 19, Milton Brewers
8) 1B Dave Henry, 23, Dover Generals
9) 1B John Henry, 23, Ocean City Tourists
10) RHP Dan McGrath, 24, Seaford Blue Jays

This years #1 prospect was the 4th overall pick in last years draft. He is expected to start the season in Single-A this year, but don't be surprised if he makes he debut this season. He has an above average bat, glove, and speed so he could be an exciting player. Our scout refers to him as "An elite prospect". CON: 10/14, GAP: 15/17, HR: 10/16, EYE: 9/11, K's: 6/11

Last years #1 prospect started the season in AAA before being called up for the Martinsburg Mountaineers. In 16 games, 6 starts, he performed outstanding. Going 2-2 1.88, with 3 saves. He struck out 23 in 28.2 innings, but will need to get his walks down (21) to be that elite starter. At 22 he should have a bright future.

History of the Top Prospects
Here is a look at the past top prospects, with some very quality names on the list including some Hall-of-Famers (donated with the *) and Hall-of-Famers to be.

2040: SP Ramón Jiménez, Martinsburg Mountaineers

2040 Top Minor League Systems
Ocean City Tourists pop to the top of the list propsect list year with 2-players in the top 10 and 5 in the top 100. Rodney Wade (#1) should make it the bigs this year, John Henry (#9) is penciled in as the starting 1B. They are young and powerful and should be a force in the Coastal Division soon.

Chadds Ford is back to #2 with 5 players in the top 50, and 9 in the top 100. Crip Klin jumped from 23 to 16 and Miguel Cortesini moved up a little bit after dropping from 10 to 31 and now 29. Both these guys need some more development, but should be making their debuts by 2041 and maybe even this season... Our top prospect last season OF Ron Walls dropped from 13th to 63rd.

There are a whopping 4 teams this seaosn without a top 100 prospect! Both of the expansion teams and the Blue Hens and the Sixteens. Both the Blue Hens and the Sixteens have been playing for the 'now' and have hurt their systems over the years.

2040 Predictions - Delaware Conference

The predictions are out and not much is changing from last season. The Clippers, Braves and Sixteens are the class of the conference and the Northern Division and the 2nd Wild Card are up for grabs.

I am glad to see us back on top of the Division now I just need my young staff to step it up and I will feel good. I am worried with Cuesta out, but maybe that will be a good thing and we will be able find a gem. We will see... going to be an interesting start to the season that is for sure.

MVP Candidates: Ichizo Nii (Braves), Eisaku Fujihara (Braves), Lorenzo Montoya (Blue Hens)
Golden Arm: Scott Vanciny (Braves), Fernando Fareles (Braves), Cal Lawton (Clippers)

2040 Predictions - MarVa Conference

Another year and more of the same yet again. The predictions see all three division winners from last year returning to the podium, with the only real battles the wild card with 3 or 4 teams. This is the first time in a long time that the Norfolk Cavaliers aren't predicted for the extra season. Crazy to see them listed as 3rd in their division, since they were such the mainstay.

Watch out for the Martinsburg offense it might be one of the best all-time! With Jackson, Gette, and Wallstreet in the middle of it.

The latest expansion clubs are expected to be awful with both predicted to lose over 100 games... maybe I grew the league too fast.

MVP Candidates: Ulbrecht Gette (Mountaineers), Mikel Wallstreet (Mountaineers), Rafael Estrada (Barons)
Golden Arm: Hugh Duncan (Mountaineers), Cesar Berau (Blue Crabs), Fred Rose (Blue Crabs)

K's: Robert Shepherd (848) | 9. Juan Cuesta (375)
SV: Jonathan Loeffler (175) | 5. Gallin Krall (20), 7. Alvin Richardson (13), 8. Jose Santos (12)

Final 25-Man Roster:
C Pedro Cantu
C Jose Matos

1B Eugene Todd
2B Jose Ayala
3B Tully Maxwell
SS Felipe Saurez (Rookie)
SS Murray Wallstreet
IF Juan Guzman

OF Mike Johnson
OF Juan Rosales
OF Pedro Diaz
OF Naganori Matsuo (Rookie)
OF Ogai Takahashi
DH Ambrose Gutierrez

SP Gehrig Pearl
SP Juan Monjardim
SP Tom Watson
SP Bob Bradford
SP Gallin Krall

MR Jose Ruiz
MR Dan MacNeilage
MR Gergorio Costello (team Captain)
SU Jose Santos
SU Chris Adkins
CL Alvin Richardson

There are a few players on this roster that will be fighting for their life and thier future in Chadds Ford: Pearl, Todd, Pearl, Krall, and Adkins are the first names that pop-up. Perform or move on...

Opening Day:

We will be traveling to New Castle to take on the Colonials in a 5-game series, one of the teams that are favorited to go deep into the playoffs. Not the best way to open the season, but maybe if we can get some quick W's it will boost our confidence and set us up for a nice season.

Gehrig Pearl will be on the hill for opening day, his first opening day start, and he will be taking on Tomas Hernandez, who went 14-11 3.93 last year. Pearl our only lefty went 6-11 5.24 last year and is on the bubble this season. Depending on how the first half of the season goes his time with Chadds Ford might be coming to an end. His promising star has seemed to fizzle.

Our opening day lineup is interesting, at least to me, as we have a nice mix of youth and vets, lefty's and righty's. I feel like this team should hit I just hope it will be enough over the course of 162 games.

CF Juan Rosales
SS Murray Wallstreet (L)
LF Ogai Takahashi
RF Naganori Matsuo (L)
3B Tully Maxwell
1B Eugene Todd
C Jose Matos (L)
2B Jose Ayala
DH Ambrose Gutierrez (L)

The one thing I do worry about with this offense is our corner outfield. Takahasi and Matsuo are both average outfielders, so hopefully that won't hurt us. There are a lot of quesiton marks with this team and that could mean some turnover this season as we head into the trade deadline (winning or not).

GM Notes:
I made my final cuts and I am not overly happy by them. I am really just setting myself up for some more crazy moves down the road. Bomas deserves to be on the big league squad, Carillo is day-to-day but it was easier to DL him, and Francisco Franco will be back soon. Who konws what the long injury will have done to him, but he may be a factor in 3-4 weeks. That is a lot of players with no place to put them...

I may have to start making some more deals like I did with Orozco. I wasn't overly excited by that deal, but he hasn't performed well for me and Mike Milton might be a pretty solid player soon... just in time for Tully Maxwell to hit free-agency and then it all starts over again.

I am excited to get this game going and a little nervous at the same time. After last years awful season I am hoping we bounce back. My goal is to win 88 games and make the playoffs.

After last years poor showing, I am not sure how I should feel about this years team... that being said I am going to remain positive and focus on the now.

Lets play ball!

GM Notes:
Well this season didn't start off how I wanted it to, but at least it wasn't completely awful. It does make me wonder however if we really are a good team or just good on paper. I may need to make a couple more deals before we become "good"... but I do have to say the signing of Ito should make a big difference... I think.

Murray Wallstreet has lived up to the hype so far as he (.500) and Felipe Suarez (.474) are the two guys hitting the best so far. While Matsuo (.174) and Todd (.056) aren't doing much. I do think these guys will drop and the other two will pick up, but that being said Todd is on a short leash. He has had such a rocky career so far and its driven me crazy.

I am looking forward to Otto Carillo coming back, but I am not sure where is he going to fit on this roster, but I could use his bat. Carillo hit .302-5-49 last year and I have a feeling he is going to get better this year. Right now this team has 5-players hitting under .200, and I am sure Carillo can do much better... just a matter of who is going to be sent down.

I want to have a fast start, jump out with a 10-game winning streak, and just cruise from there. This season seems to be similar to the previous ones... slow start. I am tired of them. I look back and wonder if it is something I could have done in Spring Training differently. Did I not cut people fast enough? Did the starts not get enough swings? But even when they do the season opens and everyone goes cold. Its annoying and frustrating. Then again maybe it just has something to do with my mid-range talent level.

We have a another tough week ahead with games against the Newark Millers and the Milford Clippers. I have to hope our pitching is up for the task. I can't wait to see what Yas Ito has and it his signing wasn't a waste a money. Maybe I should stop signing foreign imports without any DBL experience.

After missing 13-months with a torn UCL Francisco Franco is off the DL!! He is headed to AAA to see if he can get his game back together. Last time he pitched was the beginning of last year. as our closer, he threw 2.1 innings before going down.

Other/Roster News:
None.

GM Notes:
Last week I complained about my imports this week they carried me. Naganori Matsuo, Ogai Takahashi, and Yasunobu Ito all had great weeks, Takahashi and Matsuo lead my offense both hitting over .400 for the week and proving they belong in the lineup everyday. Yasunobu Ito picked up his first win and I have a feeling he is going to win 15 more this season. Those 3 guys are key to my 2040 success...

Speaking of those guys, Ogai has an easy name, but Yasunobu and Naganori have pain names to type so much! I am thinking Yasunobu is going to go by Yas and Naganori I have no idea! He doesn't even have a good nickname, acutally he doesn't have a nickname, so I will have to make something up. I don't like Nag, but maybe Nori... So Yas and Nori to go along with Ogai...

My imports are playing well, and I wonder if they can keep it up. With Felipe Suarez crushing the ball right now I am not sure what to do with Tully Maxwell and Otto Carillo. Carillo might end up being my first baseman if Eugene Todd doesn't start picking it up. It seems to be the same way every year with Todd, slow start, and then a hot streak and ends up with a mediocre .271 and 21 HR year. If Carillo is going to put up numbers like he did last season, maybe it is time to send Todd away. I just hate sending draft picks away, even though I do it all the time.

Speaking of, Eugene Todd, he is off to an awful start .125-0-1 in 12 games (40 AB's) and I am almost done with him. He did the same thing to me last year and as soon as I was about to make a change he picked up it. He finished .271-13-54, which is pretty awful in my opinion. I think it is time to break ties with him no matter how hard it will be.

The injury to Rosales is going to hurt my defense and we may end up seeing Murray Wallstreet head back into the OF. Right now I don't have a true center-fielder, so I am sort of at a loss. Call up someone from the minors who can play CF? Go with an average (slightly-below) average player there till Torres comes back? I am not sure, but I do know I am going to run into some roster issues when everyone heals from their injuries. Some decisions will need to be made and someone or "someones" will need to be dealt away.

I am disappointed in the start to this season. We really are a better team or should be. I am always torn if firing the manager and bring in a new actually does anything so I am going to sit on this for a while. We haven't played well since I let Patterson go least year and I still wonder if that was the right move or not and I haven't really figured out the right answer... I really need to let that go.

Activated SS Otto Carrillo from the disabled list.

Other/Roster News:

GM Notes:
Well I shopped around Eugene Todd (.143-1-3, 42 AB's) and guess what? No one has much interest, unless you consider a 2* minor leaguer interest. At some point I will either trade him for junk or just DFA him and let him get claimed on waivers... Speaking of waivers, I put Jose Ruiz on waivers, what a bad signing that has turned out to be, and NO one wanted him. So now he is back on the team. Stupid me signed him to a 1+1-player option so cutting him will cost me over $2M. I am thinking of waiving him again and pray for something good to happen.

Felipe Suarez and Murray Wallstreet have been offensive leaders of this team so far this season. Wallstreet I thought would hit, but Suarez has done more than expected. Both players have 11 RBI's and 13 R's so far this season. Suarez has already moved Maxwell to the bench and if he keeps this up Maxwell will be fighting to get some PT.

Pedro Cantu was signed last season for his 'leadership', and I ended up signing him to another year, but this year might just be the end of the road for him in Chadds Ford. He is 2 for 23 on the year, but now I have to figure out who is going to be my back-up catcher if I let him go. Kyle Glendinwyn may be my guy, as Miguel Cortesini just isn't ready yet... and at this point I am not sure if he will ever be. He is only 23 so I should be patient I know.

This was an AWFUL week, and it was hard to determine who actually was the Chadds Ford "stars" of the week. These guys can't even be called stars right now. I am trying to go through this season with a positive attitude, but weeks like this make it so hard to do. Maybe I need to juggle the lineup even more... Yes we went 3-3, which is better than 3-4, but still I consider it awful. We need to win games, that is all that matters.

But maybe I am looking at this whole situation the incorrect way and I am the problem. I am always quick to blame someone else, but I have never really took the blame. Maybe the team just doesn't like me, or maybe I am targeting the wrong players building the team the wrong way... I just don't know where to begin. I feel like I have a strong core, but for some reason we just can't put it together. We aren't a 'bad' team we just aren't playing well. I really feel like we should be competing for the division, maybe we will when it is all said and done. I don't know. Here we go another confused season.

Transactions:
Traded 33-year-old catcher Pedro Cantú to the Lewes Braves, getting 22-year-old minor league second baseman Teune de Meij in return.

Our scout really likes De Meij and he will be heading to AA to prove his worth He was hitting .462-2-18 in 65 AB's in AA, so it will be interesting to see how that carries over to Chadds Ford... and with Mike Johnson on the roster I felt we could let one of our vet leaders go. Hopefully, this won't backfire on me. Kyle hit .259-2-10 in 31 games for us last season. Just waiting for Cortesini, whom doesn't seem like he will ever be ready. It may acutally be time to give up on the kid.

Signed free agent 2B Chris Taylor to a minor league deal.

Taylor was drafted in the 11th round last season, but never saw the field for the Cape May organization. Our scout Tad Cameron thinks he is a 4* player and could hit .270 in the bigs if he can develop. I figured it couldn't hurt to try Taylor is only 19 years old, so we will see.

Injuries:
OF Juan Rosales, Broken bone in elbow, 6-months, 11-day Dl.
SP Juan Cuesta, Torn rotator cuff, 4 months, 11-day DL
OF Juan Torres, Partially torn laburm, 4 weeks, 60-day DL
MR Francisco Franco, Strained forearm, 3-4 weeks, 11-day DL.

Francisco Franco has pitched in 3-games in AAA. The first two he went a total of 1.2 innings allowing 2-hits and walking 1, saving both games. In the third one fatigue from not pitching for so long set in and he got roughed up for 2 runs and 3 hits blowing the save, taking the loss, and not retiring anyone... and he is headed back to the DL with a strained forearm. He is out 3-4 weeks and the once shining star is starting to dim.

Other/Roster News:
Otto Carrillo is still listed D2D with a strained thumb, but he is playing just about everyday for me. Last week he was one of my best hitters hitting .353-1-4 with a 2B and 4 R's in 4-games. It would be nice for him to heal, but with him hitting like this it makes it tough for me to rest him again.

GM Notes:
Our bats are carrying us and our pitching is awful, almost like we are an expansion team and dealing with everyone's second best. I am not sure how long I stick with Yas Ito, it is tough to see him get pounded every week. Do I send him down to AAA? Do I try to trade him? I mean I am paying him some good money to win some games, but this 7.36 ERA in 5 games is bad, and I need my starters to do better. Maybe a few AAA starts or a stint in the bullpen will be good for him.

I already DFA'd Jose Ruiz once this season and I am about to do it again. He won't accept assignment to AAA and can't seem to get anyone out. The issue I have is I am going to end up eating a lot of money unless I play the DFA game which seems like a hassle. But his 17.36 ERA and .389 BABIP is awful. I guess I should have paid more attention to his stats than I have. Those are just painful to look at.

You ever have one of those feelings that you are taking one step forward, yet two back? That is how I feel this season is going right now. Every time there is a bright spot, a bigger hole (or 2) seems to appear. Our pitching is BRUTAL, and if we could get any help on the mound we might actually be able to complete. Tom Watson is leading the way right now, and I need starters like Yas Ito, Juan Monjardim, and Gehrig Pearl to step it up. I may have to move Juan and possibly Yas to the bullpen.

This is getting frustrating... maybe I just need to ride it out. Look back over the years and see how we have continued to start slowly, even during the seasons where we won the division. I remember one year I almost gave up and traded away the team, only to win the division and just miss the series. Could that be the key to this season? Just let it go, let them find their bearings, let the W's start pouring in?

I need to break this chain of under performance and just get things done. We can win this division, but we have to do better, all around, defense, pitching, hitting, etc...

April 2040 - In Review

Players of the Month - April 2040

Delaware Conference
DE Conf Batter of the Month Honors to Fujihara: Eisaku Fujihara has a lot going for him. The Lewes first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Delaware Conference has just picked him as its top hitter for April. In 27 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .333 with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

DE Conf Picks April's Top Pitcher: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Scott Vanciny still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 25-year-old starter for Lewes was named Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 3 wins and no losses with 65 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.56 ERA in 52 innings of work.

Fujihara Voted April's Top Rookie: Eisaku Fujihara is a latecomer to this league. The 32-year-old Lewes first baseman is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .333 average, the Delaware Conference named him April's Rookie of the Month. He hit 10 home runs last month, knocking in 27 runs and scoring 20 runs. He banged out 32 hits and drew 20 walks to post a .458 OBP.

MarVa Conference
Martinsburg Right Fielder MV Conf's Best Batter in April: At only 25 years of age, Tyrone Jackson could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career. That would be great news for fans of the Martinsburg Mountaineers, as April was one to remember for the right fielder and he has captured the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month award. On the month he hit .396 with 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Robertson Wins MV Conf Top Pitcher Award: The elite pitcher this past month in the MarVa Conference was John Robertson of the Martinsburg Mountaineers. He stood head and shoulders above the rest, finishing April with an extraordinary 5-0 record and a 1.41 ERA. The Mountaineers star hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 30 hits in 38.1 innings. He struck out 25 and walked 9.

MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Youngster Monte Madden emerged as the latest MarVa Conference Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Annapolis deserved the honor, batting .345 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Madden enjoy the limelight.

Thanks Andy, and no it isn't dead. I was just thinking I have to get back to this. We moved and things have been quite crazy but as the dust is starting to settle, things will get moving again.

Transactions:

Injuries:
MR Francisco Franco, Strained forearm, 2 weeks, 11-day DL.
OF Juan Rosales, Broken bone in elbow, 5-months, 11-day DL.
SP Juan Cuesta, Torn rotator cuff, 3 months, 11-day DL
OF Juan Torres, Partially torn laburm, 2-days, 60-day DL
SS Otto Carillo, Quad strain, DtD (Minimal)

Torres comes off the DL this week which means I will have to make a decisions. He should/could be a pretty solid average player, but he has a bad attitude. I guess I will send him to AAA and see what happens, as my OF is quite deep right now.

Other/Roster News:
none

GM Notes:
The frustration continues. We just can't get a streak going and it is starting ot bug me. Maybe it is time to start over. I wonder if I have enough time to start over or if the new owner will say bye... then again will that be a bad thing? I think my time in Chadds Ford has really worn me out. No matter what I do, vets, rookies, a mix, I can't seem to find the right combination. It is making me work harder than I have been used to. Which actually isn't a bad thing, just a different thing.

I really am at a loss of what to do with this team. Our pitching has just been awful, our hitting is middle of the road and no one seems to be able to step it up and lead the way. The young core isn't developing like we were hoping and the older guys, well they are, older guys. Maybe this is a reflection on the staff I have put together, maybe the scouting, maybe the heart of these guys. As we finished up the first month I do see so much room for improvement from these players.

How can we have the 4th best OBP in the league and 7th in runs? I have to have my power hitters Ogai Takahashi and Naganori Matsuo step it up. Takahashi (.296-9-21) needs to be the leader here, while Matsuo (.274-6-14) hopefully adjusts to life in the US and he starts coming around. If those two can hit .280-40-110 we should be able to score more. As long as Murray Wallstreet (.311-9-25), Felipe Suarez (.320-2-12) and Jose Ayala (.314-2-13) continue to hit. Ayala may be moving up in the lineup soon, I just hope that doesn't put added pressure on him.

Catcher has been a HUGE disappointment for me. Last year Jose Matos hit .280-15-74 his second year in the bigs this season he is hitting .265-0-5 with a slugging PCT of .301! With a power rating of 10 (out of 20) he needs to do better. He at least isn't striking out that much, with 22 hits, 14 walks and only 15 K's. Hopefully, he comes around.

With Yas Ito struggling really badly I may need to find a replacement for him as my #5 starter. I need Juan Cuesta to return, but he is still out for 3-months. Ito was supposed to be my #2 or 3, but it seems like was "cap" was over-estimated that and/or his transation to the DBL hasn't gone over well. I still have faith he will turn it around.

I just want to get some W's. Maybe May will be my month.

GM Notes:
I feel like we are close but just missing something and nothing major. Someone to give this team a little spark and get us back on the right track. Problem is finding that person, does he even exist or his a unicorn? If I could get that team leader someone to fire up these guys maybe and just maybe we can put this whole thing together and start getting more W's than L's.

One big thing that has happened during my time in Chadds Ford is I am starting to doubt my scout(s). I have had 2 or 3 scouts here and I have lost faith in all of them. I wish I could go back to the scout I had in Norfolk in 2015, but I am sure (if I remembered him) he is long gone. When I try to make a trade or draft a player or sign a free agent it takes so much more time. I have to see what my scout says, what OSA says, what his past stats are, etc. Pretty soon I will be exporting the stats and running metrics against them making up my own "WAR" type statistic... its getting a little crazy.

Maybe I just need to go back to my philosophy during the earlier years, that defense and pitching win games. As long as I have a decent OPS, and I have a defense that will play over.710 efficiency I should be ok. I think I have focused too much on offense recently and that has really hurt... not to mention the faith I had in these young pitchers based on my scouts recommendations. At least 4 of them were supposed to be 4-5* arms and only one is that high.

I hit my teams home page and I see the "Who's Hot?" and "Who's Not?" section and I have to say I am quite disappointed by the hot section. Why you ask? Well because it is empty! I guess I could take that as a positive and thing it will be full soon, right? We will see... as for the Not, two players, one of the fan favorites, Juan Guzman, who is 3-29 (.103-0-0) in the past 11 games, and Ogai Takahashi, who is 3-33 (.091-0-0), so that is two starters who haven't contributed very much and I need them to. Without them my offense struggles. Maybe it is time to make some lineup tweaks, probably been too long, anyways.

Hopefully, soon for my mental state we can win more games than we lose one week. I am starting to lose faith in my club and I hate that feeling. This is when I start getting wishy/washy about returning the next season, but I am on a 2-year deal so I may have to toughen it out for at least this year and next. This doesn't mean I can't give it my all or try to find the best players it just means these weeks start to take forever! I want a hot streak...

Yas Ito has been pitching better after a rough first month in the DBL. Hopefully that will be a good sign of things to come. he went 1-4 7.36 in his first 5 starts, and 1-0 3.75 in 2 in May. Hopefully, that is a good sign. I need him to provide us with innings and chances to win, or at least pitch well enough to be traded.

Chadds Ford Cannons, Colonials Agree to Trade

Chadds Ford Cannons, Colonials Agree to Trade: A trade between Chadds Ford and New Castle was made official this morning. The Cannons have sent 23-year-old minor league CF Juan Torres, 25-year-old minor league 2B Teddy Hopkins, 20-year-old minor league CF Rafael Franco and a 5th round draft pick to the Colonials in exchange for 24-year-old RHP Ben Alexander and 22-year-old minor league RHP Ben Johnson.

New Castle will retain a portion of Alexander's remaining contract.

Alexander has taken the mound for 7 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-0 record with a 4.26 ERA. The Chadds Ford reliever has limited opposing batters to a .292 batting average.

GM NOTES:
Juan Torres may turn out to be an all-star, but he wore out his welcome here in Chadds Ford. He was deemed a 'trouble maker' and at that point I figured it was best to look for a replacement. Last year he hit .118-0-2 in 17 AB's with us, and he never developed as I expected... so at 23 I decided to risk it and move him.

The prize for me in this deal is Ben Alexander. He is a 5* prospect by both our scout and OSA with big ratings and a bright future. His stuff is rated 16/16, movement 14/14, and control 12/13, with 3 plus pitches. He hasn't broken out of his shell yet in the bigs having mediocre success over the past 3 seasons in New Castle. But at 24, his future shines bright, and he is under team control for 3 more years. Not to mention New Castle is paying all of his salary this season (what a deal!).

Ben Johnson is a 5* prospect who will be sent to AA to help out the Jackrabbits. He was 2-5 5.10 so far this season, but that didn't scare me away. Once, and it better, his control develops he can turn into an ace!

I am excited about this deal, now I have to figure out of Alexander will be in the rotation or not for the upcoming week.

Transactions:

Injuries:
OF Juan Rosales, Broken bone in elbow, 4-5 months, 11-day DL.
OF Mike Johnson, Fractured foot, 4 days, 11-day DL
SP Juan Cuesta, Torn rotator cuff, 2-3 months, 11-day DL

MR Francisco Franco was sent to AAA to see if he can get his stuff back. It has been a while since he pitched missing 5 weeks with a forearm strain. If he gets his stuff back I am going to have a deep pitching staff in AAA.

Other/Roster News:

GM Notes:
I pull off a semi-big trade and get a new SP and guess where I put him? Yep in AAA, makes sense right? Of course it doesn't! But at least I added some depth to my staff. I just don't know who to send down, the only guys with options are doing pretty ok. Plus I have a feeling that the staff is better than they have been pitching, especially Yas. So off to AAA Alexander... however, I don't think it will last very long... and what happens in 3 months when Cuesta comes back?? I will have to make some deciesions, and I am guessing my W and L's will determine a lot of what those are.

Well that was our best week of the year so far, so maybe things are looking up for us... the worst part of it all? We lost a game! How do we go off and win 5 games and drop a game in the standings...ugh... I have to remain positive right? Can I? We are only 7 weeks in and I am starting to get a bad feeling... That being said we matched our win total for April, and we actually pulled off some W's at home... bright side...

We brought out the power this week. Our offense showed what they are capable off... And I am hoping this just isn't a quick flash in the pan, but a continue rise. Our offense is much better than they have shown and it is about time they start showing that off.

Yes it is early on in the season, but this is a HUGE week for us as we face off against the Iron Pigs for four games. If we can sweep them we are right back in the mix of things, if they sweep us it is proven we just don't have it this season... if its a split, then it means we are meh and could win or lose it. I am hoping for at least a split but this Iron Pigs team is tough!

Now it is time to figure out if that was "fake" week or the real deal. I'd like to think it was the real deal and this is just the beginning of good things to come.

Other/Roster News:

GM Notes:
It is one thing to lose to the best team in the division, not saying I liked it, but hey they are better than us, it is another thing to lose to a team with only 11 wins (now 12). I mean really? That might be the worst thing so far this season. Here we are hanging on by just a thread and every game counts and we can't even beat a 11-38 team... sort of embarrassing.

One thing is for certain (and I hope I don't jinx it) is that Naganori Matsuo is red hot. He is hitting the cover off the ball this month after struggling to get started in April and during spring training. This month he has 13 HR's and 29 RBI's, you can't beat that. In fact I have 6 players this month raking! Felipe Suarez is hitting .366, Kyle Glendinwyn is hitting .364 in limited AB's (that will change), Ramon Gonzalez is hitting .441 since joining the team, Otto Carillo is quietly hitting .311, and Murray Wallstreet is at .304... These guys give me faith that this season isn't quite lost yet.

I am ready to blow this staff up and just start all over. Everytime I think they have turned the corner they just blow up again. This week was a perfect example of that. This staff has to be better than 12th in the league! We aren't going to get too far pitching like this... so many snow flakes on the weekly report...

I have decided that Ben Alexander will be joining the rotation and Juan Monjardim (4-5 6.37) will be used as a set-up man. Bob Bradford (2-2 5.30) will just head off into middle relief. Part of me really wants to Gregorio Costello (1-3 5.60), because he just doesn't have 'it' anymore, but can I really dump the team captain?? Probably not. My staff is a mess and my hands are tied with who has options and who doesn't, and I am just not ready to make the tough decision and trade or DFA these guys. They are all talented, and serve a use...

This is my 11th season here in Chadds Ford and I have to say things just don't get any easier. We hd a nice run from 2036 through 2038 with 3 1st-place finishes, but other than that we haven't been able to get into the post-season. Its been hard enough to play over .500! 10 seasons, 4 .500+ years, and this season isn't looking good. I would like to walk away from Chadds Ford with a title, or at least have them in a good position for future success, but for some reason I haven't been able to find the right mix.

Just to include a positive note on this staff, Chris Adkins has been great as my 8th inning set-up man for Alvin Richardson. He doesn't get much props, but he has thrown in 22-games going 1-0 2.08 with 23 K's over 17.1 IP and 11 holds. He has only given up 13 hits, but he has walked 12. Richardson is 16/17 this seaosn in save opportunies holding the opponents to .219 BA. Bright spots in the bullpen!

Norfolk Cavaliers: 39 year-old Miguel Angel Gonzalez has been a staple around the Cavaliers clubhouse since 2023. But for the rest of the year he won't be there, after suffering a torn rotator cuff. This will be the longest stay for Gonzalez on the DL of his illustrious career.
Richmond Cardinals: Will be without the services of Ricardo Hidalgo for the next 6-weeks. Age hasn't been nice to the oft-injured all-time HR leader. Hidalgo is hitting .251-7-22 on the year.
