Opening Day - Spookily Similar Until The 8th
This year I've decided to try and sim / manage Giants games in sync with the season in OOTP19, using the actual starting lineups and starting pitchers. This requires some messing around in commissioner mode to stop the computer GM from shuffling the opposition lineup ahead of each game. It also requires updating rosters per RL transactions (e.g. the Giants' decimated pitching rotation to start the season!).
I'm always a little wary of OOTP's "accuracy", especially as relates to offense. Admittedly this is without any reasonable foundation e.g. research / large sample sizes, etc. This year I decided to simply tweak the HR modifier down by 10% and let things take their course from there.
So, Ty Blach opens vs Kershaw. All square through 3 innings, then in the 4th, Evan Longoria hits a solo HR. Hmm, ok, different "hero" and one innings early, but pretty cool I thought. Through 5 innings, Blach was not exactly gassed so I let him start the 6th. He soon gets in trouble and I yank him, following the same bullpen moves as Bochy made for the Giants in RL...
We get all the way to the top of the 8th with things spookily in line with actual result. Kershaw gets pulled after 7. However, the computer AI makes different reliever choices than the "real" Dave Roberts and the Dodger bullpen collapses, giving up 4 runs. With the Giants up 5-0 in the bottom of the 9th, Strickland comes in to close things out. He wobbles a bit and gives up 3, but the Giants run out winners 5-3.
Player stats for the game line up remarkably well vs RL, especially Blach, whose line is almost identical, with the same pitch count!
Loving OOTP19!
