League setup sheet
I don't believe I have seen one of these, but was wondering if someone had a league setup sheet. Something with the basic things to consider before making your league. Happy Opening Day.

i re-use one for each league -- a worksheet to work on finances (baselines etc), league structure, blah bblah blah
it's not setup to automate anything, so it's no different than a word document with tables. just start organizing your thoughts.. make new worksheets for any aspect you want to dink around with beyond default. as you re-use it you'll improve it and organize thigns better. if you are smart, unlike me, you'll make each additional worksheet link back to cells on the original worksheet or some input worksheet.. thinks liek names of teams will update as you change the input or original worksheet. if you make it all in the same orientation, it;s a simple click and drag to get the rest of the formulas auto-filled etc etc.. again, all of it will auto-update instead of having to re-type new names in all cells across all worksheets. if i had done that, i'd be hapy to attach it, but like it said, my tables and such won't help you much because the info isn't relevant and everyhting would have to be changed by hand anyway... so might as well just type it in a new spreadsheet file. if new to the game, i'd piecemeal it... learn each thing you try first and don't try to worry about it all at one time. I'm not sure if this fits your post...
I create a quick start game which I modify from time-to-time. Basically you just create a game in commissioner mode and do not pick a team. I have a couple common elements I modify. Balanced Minors: I ensure each organization has 1 A- and 4 R leagues. Each team has 1 R-League DSL and 1 R-League GCL. Then there are 4 other rookie leagues, two have 14 teams and two have 16 teams. Each Organization has a team in a 14 and 16 league, also I tried to keep the leagues close to MLB divisions. All Rookie Leagues play 80 games, have all-star games, awards and playoffs with wild cards. (because I like seeing that history in a player I develop). Age Limit Minors: I hate when I see my R-League team have a terrible record (and morale) because several AI teams are rostering 25+ year old players and blowing them out 10-2 every game. Age limits force the AI to push players through to different leagues. Max Age:
I don't believe my age limits are overally aggressive, and the intent is to ensure 18-22 year old prospects get a fair shake. Balanced Stadium Size: I make sure every MLB team has a stadium of 42,000+. So basically all stadiums under 42,000, get a seat bump. All of this is saved in a quick start game, so I don't need to replicate it if I want to start a new game. |
