Pinch hit for Pitcher only to sac bunt?

Runner on first, no out, down by one in the 7th. Pitcher at 95 pitches and due up. The pinch hitter is someone with 7 POW, 2 CON. AI manager decides for a sacrifice bunt.

If that was the plan all along, wouldn't you just let the pitcher bunt him over before taking him out of the game, saving the pinch hitter for later?

I've seen this exact move more times than I care to remember as a Reds fan. Dusty was a particular fan.

I mean...it’s all about would you rather your pitcher, who may or may not handle the bat well, or a more skilled hitter attempting the bunt. Depending on game situation, I have done this before myself.

Yes, some pitchers bunt as ineptly as they hit.

And remember, there's always the chance that the first couple of bunt attempts go for strikes and the batter might then have to try to hit the next pitch.

Are you suggesting someone would pinch hit in the middle of an at bat? Without an injury occurring?

No, just looking ahead to how the at-bat might unfold. After getting two strikes while trying to bunt, batters will often give up on bunting and try to hit for real. Presumably a pinch hitter would be better in that case than a pitcher.
