This AI decision bugs me...
I'm playing as a GM-only in a non-DH fictional league. My manager is "LEGENDARY".
Here is a 1b/LF player who has terrible defense but as you can see, has been very productive over the years and is only 30: ![]() Here is who my manager has chosen to start at 1b: ![]() He's a much worse hitter and not exactly a defensive wizard. Clement is not even selected to back up. In 281 games started at 1b, he has a PCT of .988 with 27 errors. Am I being unreasonable in expecting this guy to be in the lineup, even if he's a defensive liability at first? Incidentally, last year he was rated a "3" at first, so it seems that's an arbitrary cut off. I think I'm going to force-start him at 1b but I wish there was a way I wouldn't have to interfere. |

Okay... this is weird. I toggled Commissioner mode and asked the manager to adjust the lineups (without adding force start), and now he's in the lineup.
I turned off Commissioner mode, asked to refresh the lineup, and there was no change. Somehow, toggling the Commissioner mode toggled a refresh -- for the better in this situation. |

I think it is impossible to expect the AI to agree with our perceptions. If you are playing as GM start the guy you want. There is no shame in either you or the AI disagreeing with each other.
From a strategic standpoint take a look at the rest of your starters defensive skills. it is possible the AI is making a team decision based on how bad your preferred players defense might be. FWIW, I would let the AI make the decision and see what happened. Seeing the AI handle these little dramas has always been interesting to me. Give your manager's lineup a month or so. If you can't stand it, play your guy.
