Tournament Question
Is it possible to create a sort of All-Star Tournament all from one country?
I created a series of leagues in the US. 16 leagues that all basically have the same rules, structure, etc. Each league is in a different state. They all have their own separate drafts, playoffs, etc. They don’t really associate with each other at all. I don’t allow them to trade with each other for instance. I also have each league set up in a region consisting only of the state the league is in. Teams are not allowed to have any foreign players. (I did this in hopes that each league would truly be contained within the state. I appears to work that way as all of the teams I have looked at on the initial rosters are made up entirely of people from the state they are playing in. I want to create a rotating set of post-season tournaments that each occur every three to four years. In year 1, I want a tournament in which all 128 teams compete for a national championship through a short tournament season that narrows the field down to 32 teams that play a single elimination tournament to crown a champion. In year 2, I want a 16 team double elimination tournament made up of just the champions of each of the leagues around the country. In year 3, I want to have 4 tournaments that act as smaller, regional tournaments kind of like the year one tournaments. All of the teams from 4 leagues battle it out in 32 team tournaments for regional bragging rights. *The one I cant figure out how to do is what I want in the 4th year. I want a tournament made up of All-Star teams selected from the 8 teams in each league. I would like to have one team per state league compete in a 16 team tournament. When I tried to create this tournament, it didn’t seem to work the way I hoped it would. Instead of creating teams based on the states, I got a news article that stated that the countries that would be playing in the tournament were a bunch of countries without any leagues in my game, like Japan, The Dominican Republic, Etc. Is it possible to create a tournament like I’m wanting? Would the AI be able to select players for these teams or would I have to create them myself. Thanks, Nathan |

Yes, what you want to do is create a tournament where Team Selection is Fixed, and the Roster Source is "By Team Region". You'll have to manually set up all the teams for the tournament, but if you choose one per each region, then the AI will be able to select the players to represent each one.
The other way you could handle this would be to set up the team selection as "Fixed", and the roster selection as "By Affiliated Teams". In this case, you would have to affiliate the tournament with all the leagues, and then manually assign each team to one of the tournament teams. So it's a bit more work, but if you wanted to, say, create 2 teams for each of the leagues in question (maybe one team for each division of the league, for example), then this way would allow a little more flexibility (although it may miss players who are free agents in the league in question, for example). |

I've made two posts and both have been stupid questions so I'll just put this here instead of making another thread
Uh, how exactly do I create a tournament? I see no mention of tournaments anywhere in my saved game. I want to do an annual preseason 7 game series between the WS winner and the Japan league winner. |

Thanks for your help Matt. That sounds like it will allow me to do what I want with the All-Star tournament. However, it did bring up an issue that will likely cause problems for my other tournaments. I’m wanting those tournaments to be between teams as they were during the season. Since they happen after the season ends, is it possible to have those rosters stay intact or will they be wrecked by free agency, etc.? Is there a way to change the start date of the offseason, for instance, to after the completion of the tournaments?

Baseball is a Slog, I haven’t tried to set up a tournament between just two teams but generally speaking, here’s the process that I use to add a tournament to my leagues once the league is already in place.
Go to League Settings Cling on the Global Settings tab on the upper left side. Click on the global actions tab or the upper right side. Select Add Tournament to Game. That should give you the ability to set up your tournament. |
