For those interested in creating the European Cup for Euro Teams, this is the thread to look for!

I'd recommend bookmarking this as I will update this as much as humanly possible. This is to try to come as close as possible to creating the exact European Champions Cup club tournament (similar to UEFA Champions League for soccer fans) format.

If you would like to see who is representing the proper formats, post #2 will have the group pairings. I'll work on creating the actual schedule this week.

*GAME NOTE*: A club can ONLY be a member of one tournament at a time. You will have to remove the team from that specific tournament after it finishes if you want to add it to another one!

The European Cup now has four levels:
-European Champions Cup, known as the Champions Cup (Tier 1)
-CEB Cup (Tier 2, We will call it the European Cup)
-Federations Cup (Tier 3)
-Federations Cup Qualifiers

*NOTE*: Due to playing in the IBL, T&A San Marino is in Tier 1. If they occupy first or second in the IBL, then third place in the league takes the IBL bid. SM is the only club locked in to play at any level.

Tier 1:
-Qualifiers are:
Split into two pools, four teams in each pool, round robin over three days.
  • Honkbal Champions
  • Scudetto Series Champion
  • 2nd Place in both Honkbal and the IBL
  • T&A San Marino (San Marino rep)
  • Baseball-Bundesliga Champions (Germany)
  • French Division I Champions
  • Czech Champions
Honkbal Champions
-Split into two pools, four teams in each pool, round robin over three days.
Semifinals: Pool B 2nd Place vs. Pool A Winner, Pool A 2nd Place vs. Pool B Winner
Final: Semifinal Winners

-Relegation of last place league/team to CEB (Tier 2)
-Promotion of league champion of CEB

at Rotterdam, Netherlands: June 6-10, 2018

TIER 2
--CEB 2018
Split into two pools, four teams in each pool, round robin over three days.
-Qualifiers
  • 2nd place in BBL (Germany), FD1 (France), and Czech Leagues
  • Belarus Champions
  • Nationalliga A Champions (Suisse)
  • 1 Division Baseball Champions (Belgium)
  • Ukraine Champions
  • Croatian Champions

Semifinals: Pool B 2nd Place vs. Pool A Winner,
Pool A 2nd Place vs. Pool B Winner
Final: Semifinal Winners

-Champion of League rep promoted to Champions Cup (if league already qualified, CC gets 2nd team)
-Relegation of last place league/team to Federations Cup (Tier 3)
-Promotion of league champion of Federations Cup

at Ostrava, Czech Rep. June 5-9, 2018

TIER 3
--Federations Cup
-One pool of six teams played over five days
  • BLA Champions (Austria)
  • Slovak Champions
  • Swedish Champions
  • Division de Honor Champions (Spain)
  • 2nd Place in 1DB (Belgium) and Crotia
Final: 2nd Place vs. 1st Place

-Champion of League rep promoted to CEB Cup (if league already qualified, CC gets 2nd team)
-Bottom two of Pool relegated to Federations Cup Qualifiers (Tier 4)
-Promotion of Federations Cup Qualifiers for Pool 1 and Pool 2

at Brasschaat, Belgium June 11-16

TIER 4
---Federations Cup Qualifier
-Pool 1 Qualifiers
BBF National Baseball League Champions (Great Britain / England)
BLA 2nd Place (Austria)
Polish Champions
Bulgarian Champions
Romanian Champions
Serbian Champions

---Federations Cup Qualifier
--Pool 1
  • BBF National Baseball League Champions (Great Britain / England)
  • Polish Champions
  • Bulgarian Champions
  • Romanian Champions
  • Serbian Champions
  • BLA 2nd Place (Austria)
--Pool 2
-Qualifiers
  • Lithuanian Champions
  • Georgian Champions
  • 2nd Place in BBF (England), Poland, Sweden, Switzerland
Semifinal: Pool A 2nd Place vs. Pool A Winner
Pool B 2nd Place vs. Pool B Winner
Semifinal Winners Advance
Final: Semifinal Winners (NOTE: No Technical Final in the FCQ)

How Promotion/Relegation works: If a team has multiple bids in a tier, the 2nd place tier gets relegated or the League Champion spot gets promoted.

Example: 2017 Champions Cup. A German team was relegated, so therefore the league champion is in the Champions Cup while the 2nd place team is in the European Cup.

Q: What if the German team in the Champions Cup is relegated to CEB and the German team in CEB wins to advance for the Champions Cup?
A: Nothing. The leagues stabilize with the same format.

If you want to avoid the whole tiered level thing, here would be how to set it up based upon berths:
  • Honkbal: 2 (Honkbal Series Winner and Regular Season Champion; 2nd place if RS Champion wins both)
  • Italian Serie 1A: 3 (T&A San Marino, Scudetto Winner, plus RS Champion; 2nd place if RS winner wins Scudetto, 2nd place if SM places in either, 2nd and 3rd if San Marino RS Champion and Scudetto winner)
  • Baseball-Bundesliga: 2
  • French Division I: 2
  • 1 Division Baseball: 2
  • Nationalliga A: 2
  • Baseball League Austria: 2
  • Division de Honor: 2
  • National Baseball League: 2
  • Czech League: 2
  • Belarusian League: 2
  • Croatian League: 2
  • Ukrainian League: 1
  • Slovak League: 1
  • Swedish League: 2
  • Polish League: 2
  • Serbian League: 1
  • Romanian League: 1
  • Bulgarian League: 2
  • Lithuanian League: 1
  • Georgian League: 1

Looks cool. I would probably do just one pan-European tournament, though.

Within OOTP, the only two existing real leagues are HH and the IBL. The IBL just went under a major restructuring again for the 2nd time this century. The IBL in its previous form was completely dismantled and renamed Italian Baseball Serie A1. It will be an eight-team league this season, and are aiming at putting 10 or 12 teams on the field in 2019. They aim for 2020 to have 12 teams without question, then it will go back to being a Promo/Reg league.

That's what I am going to do once I get everything sorted out. I know eriqjaffe had a fictionalized setup of the Euro-style game for OOTP17 that I've used but Bonzi777 was trying to replicate the lower-tiered leagues of CEB. Makes me want to figure out how to layout a 40, 48, 56, or 64 team style tournament.

So, if I have three tournaments set up, they need to run something like this?

Tournament 1 and 2 runs every week for 5 weeks.
TournMent 1 has teams from leagues A and B
Tournament 2 has teams from leagues C and D

Tournament 3 runs every week for 9 weeks. It starts 2 weeks after the completion of tournaments 1 & 2.
Tournament 3 has teams from all 4 leagues.

Do I have to manually remove all teams from the first two tournaments for them to be able to take part in tournament 3 or will they be ok because the tournaments do not run at the same time?

I was originally going to try to have all three tournaments running at the same time but it sounds like that isn’t possible.

Although you would have to manually do the scheduling, yes. The game does not allow a club to be in two tournaments at the same time.

A real world example would most likely be the last Konami Cup, aka the Asia Series. In 2013, the tournament featured the 2013 league champions of the ***, KBO and CPBL, as well as the 2012-13 ABL Champions, the 2nd place team from the CPBL (as Taiwan was hosting the Series) and the 2013 European Cup Winner. The EC winner was Fortitudo Bologna, so you would have to manually replace them in the European Cup before adding them to the Asia Series.

Ok. Thanks. I guess I’ll have to decide whether or not I want to go to all that trouble or just have one big tournament instead.

Could you make a template out of this for us to download and add to our games?

Right now, there is only two official leagues to do so. The game only has the Dutch and Italian leagues and I believe Bonzi said he was going to work on doing some other Euro leagues when it comes out. At some point in the next month or two, I'll probably make a bunch of fictional Euro Leagues based on the First Division Leagues (avoiding Promo/Reg because all of them bulks the game up and the game takes too long to sim).

I'll most likely due eight groups of six and go from 48-(32)-16-8-4-2 format and try to schedule the in-season tournament games on Tuesday/Wednesdays.

If anyone wants to do the real German and French Leagues (hope to get to a few French league games myself this summer) I bet we'd be willing to include them in the game officially next year. I would like to do it myself but there's no way I'll have the time.

What would you recommend setting the default PCMs to for the leagues?

I feel both leagues are about equal, with Germany being more a hitter friendly league and France being slightly favorable to pitchers.

I don't know really and don't have the time to do a lot of research atm.

Off the top of my head, Germany is definitely better. They should be a bit worse than Italy/Holland and France a bit worse than them.

The hitter pitcher thing doesn't matter for PCM's though, that'll be taken care of by adding the correct league totals and then auto calcing the modifiers.

Is there a mod schedule for something like this? Something with in season tourneys like UEFA CL/Europa? so we dont have to all do it manually every season?

Unfortunately, not at the moment. As Lukas just said, only Holland and Italian leagues are in the game.

With that said.... I'm slowly kicking the tires on doing the German and French leagues right now. I'm not so sure about the compensation levels in the leagues, so they are set right now to a different amount . I have thought about making the financials for these two leagues much like the American Independent leagues but so sure just yet.

I would say wishful thinking on OOTP20 having the Champions Cup in it if the German/French leagues are done.

If you're making them with the idea of getting them in the game next year, don't worry about salaries and stuff like that too much. Markus or I will set the financials, PCM's all that.

What I need is a basic league with the right teams (and ballparks etc), players, stats in it.

I can handle the fine-tuning.

Luckily, I found the German league statistical history back to 1994!

Here is a checklist....
  • Current 2018 Teams (Operates as a Promotion/Regulation League) CHECK!
  • Statistical History for current players (FOUND!)
  • League Schedule: CHECK
  • 2018 Rosters: CHECK (German Complete, French WIP)
  • Ballparks
  • Locations
  • Personnel
  • Playoff Format
  • All-Star Game
  • Roster Rules

If I'm missing anything, let me know. This will give me something to do for downtime at work.

Quick question: I assume the current players that are duplicated would be handled on your side of things? (i.e. the players who I sent ya that were playing in those leagues that come up as retired in Quickstart).

You'll find French stats here: http://france.stats.free.fr/

Also here: http://www.stats.ffbs.fr/2018/index.php

Duplicate players I can handle, yes. Don't even worry about adding them. Just include their stat lines in a .csv for me.

Probably good to include players from 2017 and 2016 at least even if not on team rosters in 2018 to create some depth.

Right now, Division Elite does not have rosters available .

Would you like me to also add the players from the relegated teams to the Free Agent pool?

Seems reasonable.

I'd just start with 2017 rosters then. Easier to update them when the 2018 ones come out than to start from scratch.
