I bought Stellaris from Paradox when it first came out for $29.99. I thought it was good. As good as any 4X game I'd played and better than most. Since then I've bought all the add on content too so i'm into it for about $60 now. I get grouchy every time I do it but I never regret it after. The new content does enhance the game a lot. If I had paid $60 then for the game I have today I'd have no complaints.

So to answer the question, yes if OOTP released a 3D stadium pack with Forbes, Crosley, Polo, Sportsmans, etc I'd buy them. I would only buy if they are all there and I would not buy them singly.

I would also by a fictional stadium pack, particularly if it included stadiums appropriate for Minor League teams. So my answer is yes.

I haven't played historical and I don't mess around with stadiums very much. So my question would be..would it be a one time purchase or would it be for every new version of OOTP?

I know a lot of work goes into these but I rarely if ever play out games, so for me it would be a 'no'.

I would much rather spend $30-$40 for an external encyclopedia/record book.

I can only say that the hours of work I put into the stadiums was done without monetary compensation in mind, but more of a self satisfaction I had in learning a new tool and getting to know almost every historical stadium intimately. It was so much fun.

silvam, for some reason, other than obvious lack of talent and because the field was already crowded with highly skilled people here (such as yourself), I never got into doing very much mod work for OOTPB. But there is another game with which I have been heavily involved the past couple of years and I have devoted TONS of time in developing scenarios for it, all gratis.

It has not been fun all the time, I must admit; the game is relatively new and is still being developed and debugged. Sometimes I was frustrated and wondered why I would continue to do what I was doing but I always came back. The answer was, for the same reasons as you: I wanted to give something valuable to the community and ultimately it is fun. Plus I am helping to build something over there and I am proud of that.

It keeps the games I like fresh and getting updates, patches and more love far beyond when they would've in the past.

In the past you'd buy EU I, then in a few years EU II, then EU III and each game would take a step back along with a few steps forward.

Now you can keep playing the same game much longer and the addons add interesting functionality to the existing game, rather than tearing things up and forcing you to start over new every couple years. And if you're short on money or don't like a particular DLC, well since they're all modular you can just skip it or get it when you want.
I certainly agree that when Paradox actually does release a content rich DLC for one of their wonderfully intricate games, like the new "Waking The Tiger" DLC for HOI IV, it can greatly revitalize an existing title without the need for a full sequel. However, that's not what we always get from Paradox, is it? It's their custom of nickel and diming their customer base for every little music and unit graphics pack that I find less than savory.

Yes, I know they have to eat too. Yes, I know grand strategy games are a niche product. Yes, I know all additional content is just that...additional content that is not required to play the game. But Jesus Alou on a limbo stick....do they have to charge us for every new sprite and sound that's added to the game?

Fine...eat, just don't be gluttonous and bite the hand that's feeding you too. That's not too much to ask, is it?

The more I think about this idea the more I like it. I think a pack of fictional ballparks for both major and minor league teams that would suit any team but still be unique to who ever you assigned it to would be a real enhancement for fictional league play. I would definitely buy it.

Of course, like Markus has said, the real dream is a "stadium builder" tool built into the game. Maybe someday.

LOL I thought of the Paradox model also. Once you start finding lucrative DLC, you eventually start programming around stripping core features and selling them later, a la Paradox. I would not mind professionally done Old Time stadium models as a one time add on, but I think it goes against the philosophy Markus et al have put forth so far of not charging for major updates, etc.
Silvam and other modders have done such a great job we should not head down that slippery slope

Just my two cents as a Crusader Kings 2 fanboy

Let's try this a different way. Would you pay extra for an add on that allowed you to build your own 3D stadiums for use in-game?

For me that's an unqualified "yes".

That will be part of a future OOTP release, for sure.

About the whole topic, the games industry will go through a massive paradigm shift in the next 5 years, and everybody in the industry has to adjust or go bankrupt. Currently you have DLC, loot boxes, subscription models etc, things that were almost unknown 5 years ago. How it all develops in the end nobody knows, but good businessmen make necessary adjustments without pissing off their customer base. We will, too.
