Charles Johnson? I met several members of the '97 Marlins when they were at AA Kane County in 1993 including CJ. I thought it was the coolest thing that I was/am taller then he is. He's around 5'10 i was 6'2 -6'3 at the time. He is among my top 25 favorite players. So glad he played for the Sox for a bit.

Pirates
As a kid: Willie Stargell (everybody loved Pops)
Young adult: Jay Bell (met him when I was a teenager; thought he was the batboy, he laughed it off)
Team's Lean Years: Nobody stayed around long enough to be a favorite
Present day: Jameson Taillon (great story and appears to be a good guy)

Ernie Whitt - He was singing autographs before a game when I was a kid. He finished up and was going to the dugout when I called out to him and he came back and signed my program. Just seemed like a really nice guy!

Great childhood memory...

Tampa Bay Rays, I got interested in baseball about the same time they entered the league. Favourite player? Carl Crawford, loved that guy.

Chicago white sox

"Beltin" Bill Melton

Was also my 2nd sports idol after my 1st (Tom Dempsey) kinda wore off. Melton didn't have long and illustrious career, but I was just moving into becoming a HUGE baseball & White Sox fan. Still have that spot in my heart for Melton because the 1st is so hard to move on from

Close 2nd was Wilbur Wood

Favorite team when younger (pre-1990): Dodgers
Looking back on it, this is probably why my rooting interest was what it was and is what it is now. The fact that they had the interleague rivalry with the Yankees dating back to their days in Brooklyn is probably what stopped me from being a Yankees fan despite the fact that they had so many championships and great players over the years.

Current favorite teams:
1A - Cardinals
1B - Red Sox
It's a weird combination, isn't it?

Favorite player (all-time):
Ken Griffey, Jr.
Favorite player (current):
Albert Pujols (because I miss the old days when my team's front office knew what it was doing and was actively trying to win)
