I actually like reading some of the storylines but then again age may be making me soft in the head. I am using the other stories to check for fictional players that annoyingly are sneaking into the league. When found they automatically put on the rack and then terminated (deleted), any ideas on how fictionals are sneaking in to my league? Is there an easy way to detect the infiltration of the vermin?

Right now Mo is starting and not very well. Thinking that will end by the end of the season.

I've always been a big fan of Rivera but I must admit that there was a lot swearing being done by me at my sim Mo. Billy Wagner, on the other hand, who I liked well enough IRL, has become one of my favorites in my little OOTP universe. (Another sad result for one of my favorites is what has befallen the Big Hurt in this alternate reality. He was every bit the Frank Thomas you would expect while with the White Sox but then the Dodgers signed him as a free agent prior to the 1998 season and he never had more than 194 plate appearances in a season since. And he hasn't been particularly injury prone. In fact, the majority of his injury history is prior to joining the Dodgers. They just couldn't seem to figure out what to do with him. I was heartened a bit when he was finally traded to the Pirates in the most recent off season ('03-'04) but it's a little bit too late and he really needed to go to an A.L. team at this point. 2004 season winding down and Thomas has 159 PA, is hitting .264/.409/.480 with 3 doubles and 8 HR. At age 36 the indications are that he is a possible (borderline) HOF'er, but certainly no sure thing.)

I've found that in general the top closers don't perform to expectations in OOTP. Admittedly don't know why or if that's just my own experience.

I don't have "Enable Amateur Draft" Checked. My first Amateur draft turned out OK. I had it in December at the end of my first season. Prior to that I had only had the Inaugural Draft.
But I think I should enable it when the pre-season starts. Do you agree?

Both boxes should be checked as I indicated in my post above. You can only do so in the preseason, so make sure you do it between late January/early February (whenever the preseason starts).

The manual recommends holding the Amateur Draft for historical leagues in October or November. So I am setting the date in November. I will check the "Enable Amateur Draft" box during preseason.

When you you recommend holding it?

I am going to start 1914 to see if I can find anymore mistakes, this is a "trial" setup, if I can get as close to my idea of right I am going to restart it in 19 after the first couple of updates to the new version. So the clock is ticking.....

If financials are turned off wouldn't that solve that problem?

Well if financials are off there will be no need for free agent compensation. I personally turn free agent compensation off. I have a 5 round draft and have the game import 5 rounds worth of players only.

I have a 16-team league and do a draft of 100 players. 5 rounds plus 20 guys into the FA pool (or who get signed as FA's and other guys get dumped).
